According to a source, Real Madrid faces a serious threat from Liverpool if they want to recruit Kylian Mbappe as a free agent next summer.

When the PSG and France star’s contract with Les Parisiens expires at the end of June, Los Blancos have long been considered the favourites to sign him on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old, who placed third in the 2023 Ballon d’Or voting, is still a target for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are still privately optimistic that they may pull off a huge surprise by signing him.

Liverpool are tracking versatile Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are assessing the market for potential right-backs who would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and also fit into other defensive roles.

Rensch is believed to be a target for the club’s recruitment team, with Premier League title rivals Arsenal also keeping a close eye on him.

The defender is Ajax’s first-choice right-back and, despite being just 20 years old, has made 101 first-team appearances for the Dutch powerhouse.

He has registered an assist in nine games in all competitions this season, but has missed the last three games through injury.

Rensch only played as a right-back in the 2023/24 season, but his impressive versatility means he can also play as a centre-back, defensive midfielder or left-back.
He also experienced European football at the Johan Cruyff Arena, making a total of 19 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.

The right-back, who is under contract with Ajax until June 2025, played his first and only senior match with the Netherlands in September 2021.
