Transfer news: Chelsea win £170m battle Liverpool strike £60m contract, Man Utd deal
Express Sport keeps you up to date with the latest transfer stories and confirmed offers from across the Premier League and beyond, with the summer window just three weeks away.

The opening weekend of the Premier League season may be over, but clubs are still working hard to secure deals in the remaining three weeks of the summer transfer window. Chelsea and Liverpool shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and the two sides battled off the field as well, with Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp desperate to secure their best goals.

Manchester United have already done most of their business with the three signings of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, but Erik ten Hag is not done after approving the departures of Fred and Anthony Elanga. The Dutchman could sign two more new faces before the deadline, with a centre-back and a defensive midfielder on his shortlist. Arsenal may also be tempted to enter the transfer market despite already spending more than £200m this summer, with Mikel Arteta refusing to rule out further arrivals following a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

And Tottenham Hotspur now have 18 days to find a suitable replacement for Harry Kane following his successful £100m move to Bayern Munich, with Ange Postecoglou seeing improvement following a 2-2 draw at Brentford. With injuries and departures affecting all 20 teams, there should be a lot of spending in the closing weeks of the period.

Chelsea are on the verge of completing a British record transfer to acquire Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115m and could finalize the deal today.

The Blues finally agreed a fee with the Seagulls late Sunday night, with the 21-year-old undergoing a medical today having already agreed personal terms on an eight-year contract. And West London are far from done with the move to Southampton star Romeo Lavia in a £55m deal, as Mauricio Pochettino has promised to strengthen the squad.

The 19-year-old is also wanted by Liverpool, but Chelsea moved quickly to reach a deal to blow the Reds out of the water.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a target for both the Blues and Manchester City after a fantastic season last season, scoring twice and providing 11 assists for his teammates.

He is said to have a £35m release clause in his contract and, according to France’s Sports Zone, Olise has accepted Chelsea’s contract offer.

However, the West London club will have to improve their offer after Palace rejected a second bid for the French Under-21 squad.

Lavia joins Chelsea

Romeo Lavia has decided to go to Chelsea this summer, reports The Athletic.

The Blues are now in talks with Southampton to take over the Belgian playmaker’s services, with a fee of around £50m plus add-ons expected to seal the deal. Liverpool had previously made offers for Lavia, but Chelsea managed to snatch another goal from the clutches of Jurgen Klopp, having recently persuaded Moises Caicedo not to go to Anfield.

Manchester United could once again delay announcing Mason Greenwood’s future as the club continues to ponder its decision. The 21-year-old has not played competitively since his arrest 20 months ago, with the striker suspended as the club launched its own internal investigation before the charges were dropped by prosecution.

Greenwood would be informed of the club’s decision for tonight’s game against Wolves.

However, according to reports, the decision has been delayed and Greenwood may now be forced to wait until the summer transfer window closes on 1 September to find out his fate.

Man Utd ends verbal agreement

Manchester United are moving up the timetable for Benjamin Pavard after reaching a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to move to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has been identified as a replacement for Harry Maguire, who appears set to join West Ham in a £30m deal. According to reports from Germany, an opening bid from United for Pavard was rejected by Bayern on Sunday, but the two clubs are in talks over a transfer fee.

And while talks continue, Pavard has given the green light to join the Red Devils, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

Liverpool have agreed a £60m transfer fee for Romeo Lavia with Southampton as the Reds try to recover from disappointment over Moises Caicedo’s absence.

The 19-year-old has been on their radar for several months and after three refused offers, Jurgen Klopp was finally able to get his man.

However, the Guardian reports that Liverpool still have some work to do to cross the finish line. Once again they will have to convince the player to join them rather than Chelsea – and that will be worrying after Caicedo’s disapproval.

Liverpool draw attention to PSV star

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool following the absence of Moises Caicedo.

Jurgen Klopp could also be turned down in the race for Romeo Lavia now that Chelsea have agreed a £55m fee with Southampton, and the Reds are making contingency plans with Sangare on their list.

Former footballer Kiki Musampa, brother of Sangare’s agent, said four clubs are interested in the 25-year-old, including the Merseyside shirt.

“There are big clubs interested, like Bayern Munich,” Musampa told ESPN.nl. “Ibrahim is also on the list at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he’s not a priority there yet. Nottingham Forest had already made an offer, but it wasn’t enough.”
