Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is enjoying his time under new head coach Arne Slot and feels “excited” about his plans, instilling hope among fans for a new contract.

As one of the top players in his position, Alexander-Arnold is crucial to Liverpool, often mentioned alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Ironically, all three are set to be out of contract at the end of the season, making contract renewals a priority for the club.

They all featured in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over AC Milan on Tuesday, quickly bouncing back from a surprising 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. Alexander-Arnold once again showcased his talent by assisting Ibrahima Konate from a free kick, with Van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai also on the scoresheet after Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Milan.

Following the match, Alexander-Arnold praised Slot, who is likely to influence his decision regarding staying at Liverpool. “For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I’ve never had before,” he noted. “Having spoken to the manager, I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it.”

Alexander-Arnold has attracted interest from Real Madrid, partly due to his close friendship with midfielder Jude Bellingham, which has fueled speculation.

Madrid recently acquired Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer after he let his contract with Paris Saint-Germain lapse, leading to suggestions they might pursue a similar strategy with Alexander-Arnold. While contract discussions have been notably subdued—at the defender’s request to keep them private—reports indicate that should he remain unsigned by January, he could engage with foreign clubs for a pre-contract agreement.

However, in a prior interview with *The Times*, he expressed a desire to spend his entire career at Liverpool. “There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Liverpool. Somewhere I want to stay for the rest of my career is Liverpool,” he stated. “It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Liverpool are special.”

He also emphasized the significance of the fans: “It’s completely down to the fans. Whether we are winning or losing we always have their love. I want to become captain one day. That’s definitely a dream of mine.”

He concluded with aspirations for the future: “I hope with dedication, the right advice, and the hard work that still needs to be put in that one day I might achieve that dream of becoming captain, something that I and my family will be very proud of if it comes.”
