'Very clear message' - former Liverpool player makes transfer decision amid Chelsea January links

In spite of previous claims, the former Liverpool player has made a transfer u-turn.

Based on the most recent sources, it appears like Roberto Firmino, the former star of Liverpool, could not be leaving Saudi Arabia after all.
After having difficulty in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, the Brazilian was rumoured to be leaving during the January transfer window. After leaving Anfield in the summer when his contract ended, he made the move and made a fantastic debut with a hat-trick, but he hasn’t scored since.

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, Firmino was linked to a move to Chelsea as the Blues wanted to reinforce their attack with Armando Broja being their sole senior central striker and Nicolas Jackson out on international duty. It stated that Firmino had grown dissatisfied with Saudi life, however current sources refuted such allegations.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the most recent information regarding Firmino is that he will stay at the Middle East club and that no move is planned. Despite recent claims, Roberto Firmino does not intend to leave Al Ahli during the January transfer window, the player posted on X. Message from his camp, quite clear:

He intends to remain at Al Ahli. No alterations are anticipated. His team is now third in the Saudi Pro League, behind Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, despite his problems in front of goal. They have one of the league’s most star-studded squads, with players like Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Gabri Veiga, Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez, and Merih Demiral.

Firmino had earlier been connected to a trade to Sheffield United, but there was never any indication that the deal would materialise beyond transfer rumours. In just 25 league games last season, he managed a very respectable 11 goals and 4 assists, which was a fantastic return considering that Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota were all above him in the standings.

Jurgen Klopp’s team is under further stress as a result of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, dealing another blow to Liverpool.

After rupturing a ligament in his knee, Alexander-Arnold will miss some time. Along with him missing time due to injury are fellow full-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. But Liverpool may at least add more players now that the January transfer window is open.

Due to the Africa Cup of Nations and Asia Cup, Klopp is currently without Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo as well. As a result, all hands must be on deck. Here are the most recent speculations and news regarding the club. There is still plenty of time in the January window to take action.

The threat from Saudi Arabia grows.

Al-Ittihad made a strong drive to capture Salah during the summer, presenting the star player from Liverpool with an incredible package valued at an astounding £215 million. The Saudi Pro League may still seek more Liverpool players in the summer, so this threat isn’t going to go away.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Sadio Mane all headed for the riches of the Middle East last summer and Caught Offside predicts that Joe Gomez and Joel Matip will be targeted at the end of the 2023/24 season. Steven Gerrard is in charge of Al-Ettifaq, and it has been claimed that he recently convened a recruitment meeting to identify prospects for the next summer season.

Matip is currently sidelined with a significant knee injury and his term expires at the end of the season, although Klopp has raised the prospect of the club extending it. Because of his recent injuries, Gomez has emerged as an important player, and Liverpool will be reluctant to lose him.
