The centre back for Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, acknowledged that he hasn’t had any discussions about extending his contract at Anfield yet, but he made it clear that he doesn’t intend to leave this summer.
As Liverpool enters a new chapter and manager Jurgen Klopp steps down this summer, many have speculated that Van Dijk, who is nearing the end of his current contract, would follow suit.
Van Dijk expressed his excitement about fighting with Manchester City for the Premier League title the next season, so an immediate departure is not in the cards.
Van Dijk declared, “My future is not important at this moment.” “At this point, all I can say is that I doubt I would be able to hold back my tears if I had to say goodbye to Klopp since that was something that really caught me off guard.
“These fans are unique, and it will be especially poignant when they say farewell to you. I asked Joel Matip as well, “How did you manage to keep it dry, buddy?”
“I believe he did a really good job of just wanting to stand with us and move swiftly through the guard of honour.
“I don’t have anything to say right now. Nothing is on the table, and nothing has changed. Absolutely no modifications to my circumstances.”
Van Dijk went on to say of Klopp’s departure from Liverpool: “Massive change. In addition to the manager, several departments within the club are seeing a high staff turnover rate. At this point, we need to have faith in the club’s project and direction, and we’ll see how things shake out in the pre-season.
“When things change and you’re in the unknown, it might be a little frightening at first, but all you can do is trust the team and we’ll find out how things turn out when we return and report for preseason.
“I do know that, in order to avoid problems later in the season, we must have a solid break following our tournament. I hope the new boss would investigate that as well.
“I can only see what’s in there and how we have been playing the entire season; I don’t want to compare our circumstances to those of other teams.
“We have a tonne of space for growth and development—not just as individuals but also as a team in some circumstances. It should be interesting, and I’m already looking forward to the upcoming season.”
“Hopefully, we can consistently be up there once more. That’s the primary concern. We need to stick together as a team and maintain our integrity. We need it, especially as we approach the upcoming season. You have to keep together even in bad circumstances. That’s fantastic that you’re not concerned because that isn’t the situation, but you still need to keep working on it.”
