What Trent Alexander-Arnold stated about his future, setting clear his goals for Liverpool despite his ties to Real Madrid

Remarkably, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been connected to a transfer to Real Madrid. The player’s contract at Anfield expires in a little over a year.
It is difficult to see Trent Alexander-Arnold playing for a team other than Liverpool. For many, this makes the reports that associate him with leaving Anfield more implausible.
The 25-year-old’s future is once again under discussion after it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that Real Madrid is keeping an eye on his contractual status. The present contract for Alexander-Arnold is scheduled to end in 2025, but Romano indicates that negotiations for a new agreement have not yet begun.
Richard Hughes, who will only begin serving on Merseyside on June 1, was appointed this week as the club’s new sporting director, so that may soon alter. It goes without saying that Liverpool would not be interested in letting Alexander-Arnold depart in any scenario.
Although he has previously stated that Anfield is where his future lays, the player himself hasn’t spoken anything about it recently. Despite having already won every major club trophy possible throughout his playing career, he still has one goal in mind for Liverpool.
In an interview with The Times back in 2018, Alexander-Arnold stated his aims clearly. His goal is to spend his entire career at Anfield.
“I would much prefer be in Liverpool than anywhere else. Liverpool is a place I want to stay for the rest of my career. I had always wished for this. Liverpool is unique. It is all up to the supporters. We always have their affection, no matter what happens.
He described his goals to eventually don the captain’s armband at Anfield in the same interview. “One day, I want to be a captain.” That is undoubtedly my dream.
“I believe that one day, with commitment, wise counsel, and the hard work that remains, I might realise my ambition of becoming captain—something my family and I will be extremely proud of if it comes true.”
Upon agreeing to a new contract in 2021, Alexander-Arnold intensified his efforts to become captain. “I think a few years ago it was obviously to establish myself as a regular and push on and kind of be an always-starter, someone that couldn’t really be dropped,” he stated in an interview with LiverpoolFC.com. I believe I’ve kind of succeeded in that over the past few years.
These days, it’s all about winning, setting an example for the younger players both on and off the pitch, and leading the club in certain ways. It would be my goal to establish myself as a leader in those kinds of roles.
Alexander-Arnold was also considering his future after accepting the vice captaincy last summer. He said on the club’s website, “I’ve worked really hard to reach these kinds of milestones.”
It’s a moment where I’ve stopped and thought, ‘I’m proud of myself,’ and it made me smile, and I don’t smile very often! I’ve never been afraid to share my goals, and leading this team has always been one of them. This serves as a starting point and a route to there.
According to Liverpool.com, the possibility of Alexander-Arnold leaving the team is something that Liverpool would never consider. Now that the new sporting director has been announced, getting the academy graduate a new contract will undoubtedly be top of the list of priorities.
With just over a year remaining on his contract, supporters may be a little concerned about his connections to Real Madrid. However, even the most powerful Spanish player has to acknowledge that Alexander-Arnold’s chances of leaving Liverpool are slim.
