Robbie Mustoe said that one Liverpool player, who has been having a lot of trouble lately, nearly seemed like a new player in their victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Liverpool returned to winning ways over the weekend, and they appeared to be much more like the team that was in the running for the Premier League title only a few weeks prior as they easily defeated Tottenham, cruising to a 4-0 lead inside the first hour.
Liverpool managed to see out the match and virtually guarantee that they will finish third in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at the club, despite Spurs’ best efforts to set up a dramatic finale at Anfield.
With just two goals in his past eight league games for the Reds, Mohamed Salah’s form has undoubtedly been concerning lately. Those two goals were scored from penalty spots.
Salah has been under fire for his play lately, and prior to replacing Gerard Klopp on the bench against West Ham last month, he got into a fight with the manager.
In Liverpool’s victory, Mohamed Salah appeared like a totally different player.
Nonetheless, Liverpool triumphed on Sunday thanks to goals from the Egyptian and one assist. Furthermore, Robbie Mustoe of The 2 Robbies said that Salah once again served as a reminder of his exceptional qualities.
Jurgen Klopp said, “Now obviously, there was a spat on the sidelines, very angry at his manager, and they apparently made up.” He said, “He was a different person today.
I truly have no idea what has transpired over the past few weeks. Even though it ended with that little altercation on the sidelines, Mo Salah hasn’t had the best form or body language.
“And over the years, no one has been a bigger and better fan of this guy, but he was just really off his game today in terms of his sharpness, desire, and determination.”
It’s possible that the Reds star’s efforts this season aren’t receiving enough recognition.
Even though Salah has played in 30 league games this season and scored 18 goals and sent out 10 assists, it doesn’t feel like he has lit the globe on fire.
That, of course, has a lot to do with the expectations he has set for himself over the years. The last time he went four games in the league without scoring in a single campaign was in February 2023.
It was concerning that he appeared to entirely lose his edge after years of being the player who led the Reds to glory, just when Liverpool appeared ready to challenge for the championship.
Salah’s opportunity to make amends following the events at the London Stadium is encouraging, as it serves as a reminder to everybody that he is without a doubt one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
