Liverpool’s competitors in the Europa League round-up: Harry Kane has been on a roll for Bayern Munich, but there’s a concern among a possible transfer dispute with the Reds.

On Thursday night, Liverpool resumes its European campaign with the intention of moving on from the disappointment of the draw with Luton. A second win over Toulouse would ensure passage to the Europa League knockout stages and, depending on the other outcome of the evening, may also seal the team’s place as group winners.

Having won the group, Liverpool will be looking to advance ‘bye’ to the round of 32, where Champions League losers will play. As it stands, that comprises teams like Newcastle and Manchester United.

Now that Liverpool is in Europe’s secondary tournament, Jürgen Klopp will undoubtedly be hoping this is a one-time event, but Liverpool will be eager to take the trophy. Nevertheless, it will continue to monitor its more ‘natural’ competitors, such as continental heavyweight Bayern Munich.

Massive teams like Bayern remain Liverpool’s most likely rivals if the two sides get into a transfer war. In the meantime, despite Harry Kane’s incredible run of form, the Bavarians are not winning every game.

Harry Kane ‘curse’ persists amid hat-tricks

The reasoning behind Kane’s summer transfer to Bayern Munich was questioned by many. The former Tottenham player appeared to be seeking legacy in the form of titles rather than sacrificing his best chance at breaking the Premier League goals record.

But in terms of football, those who were sceptical have been silenced. It shouldn’t be shocking, though, since Kane has quickly established himself as a formidable marksman in the Bundesliga after providing a consistent 25–30 goals a season for a team that frequently struggles in the hardest league in the world.

With his most recent goal in ‘Der Klassiker’ against Borussia Dortmund, Kane has now scored back-to-back hat-tricks in the Bundesliga. Talk that he could tie Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record of 41 goals has been sparked by this.

One aspect remains unaccounted for, though: Kane seems to be cursed with cutlery. He was an unutilized substitute in between his hat-tricks as FC Saarbrücken, a third-tier team, defeated Bayern Munich in the German Cup.

This is after he was called up from the bench to make his debut in the DFL Supercup, which is effectively the German equivalent of the Community Shield, but he was unable to overcome RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen are still atop the Bundesliga despite all of Kane’s efforts.

According to Liverpool.com, Kane is not going to be able to play for Bayern Munich without winning a championship. It would obviously not be his fault, but for a player who has been plagued by the so-called curse, it would be an amazing turn of events.

Bayern is still the clear favourite to win the Bundesliga, needless to say. In the meanwhile, it must be regarded as a Champions League contender with Kane in this form. But for the time being, we must wait.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool might compete for a move.

Bayern is already preparing for its next possible transfer splash because it will not rest on its laurels in the hunt for hardware. That might put it in direct clash with Liverpool.

The Daily Star claims that Liverpool has’muscled’ its way into the running for Florian Wirtz, the promising wonderkid from the Bundesliga who is presently leading Alonso’s team in scoring. That occurs when Manchester United withdraws from the competition.

But Wirtz hasn’t escaped the elites of Europe’s transfer watch lists. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester City are among of the teams that are already towards the front of the queue.

Klopp sees Wirtz as a possible Salah substitute. Although he can play on the wing, advanced midfield roles have been his most common appearances.

Liverpool.com says: Wirtz would be a fantastic addition regardless of whether he is a straight successor to Salah. Dominik Szoboszlai should be moved out wide and he should be fielded centrally, but both players are talented enough to make a play.

Due to a cruciate ligament damage that kept him out of action for nine months last year, Wirtz’s injury history is cause for concern. However, he has bounced back from that incredibly well, regaining his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising artists.
