5 potential replacements for mohamed salah at Liverpool following contract revelations
Share
Mohamed Salah is entering the final year of his current contract with Liverpool and has not yet agreed to new terms, making a free transfer at the end of the season a real possibility.
The notion that Salah might leave was reinforced when he directly stated after the win against Manchester United that this would be his last year at Liverpool.
He also mentioned that the 3-0 victory at Old Trafford was his final visit there as a Liverpool player. Although there are rumors of ongoing discussions between Salah and Liverpool, his future remains uncertain.
In light of this, Liverpool.com has explored five potential replacements for Salah, ranging from well-known players to emerging talents.
Federico Chiesa
A notable player Liverpool signed this summer is Italian winger Federico Chiesa. Acquired from Juventus for a modest fee of $13 million (£10m/€12m) plus add-ons, Chiesa may eventually be the one to fill Salah’s role. While he is not expected to replace Salah in the starting lineup immediately, his quality makes him a credible alternative. With 10 goals in his last season at Juventus and a four-year contract with Liverpool, Chiesa, who is only 26, could be a long-term successor if he recaptures his Euro 2020 form.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a likely candidate to replace Salah, though he would come at a high price. The Georgian international was linked with Liverpool this summer due to speculation about his future at Napoli, especially after the team’s poor title defense. Despite staying with Napoli, Kvaratskhelia, who has scored 25 goals and provided 26 assists in his first two seasons with the club, remains a favored option among many Liverpool fans.
Johan Bakayoko
PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko is another potential replacement, with Liverpool reportedly monitoring him since March 2023. Valued at under $56 million (£42m/€50m), the 21-year-old showed a strong performance last season with 14 goals and 14 assists. Bakayoko, who is left-footed and likes to cut in like Salah, could be a realistic option for Liverpool.
Jarrod Bowen
West Ham’s captain and England international Jarrod Bowen is also a possible replacement. At 27, Bowen is in his prime and was previously admired by former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Though Liverpool might need to offer a significant fee to secure him, Bowen’s career-best season in 2023-24, which included 20 goals and 10 assists, makes him a compelling option. Bowen, who prefers to cut in on his left foot, could seamlessly step into Salah’s role on the right wing.
Baris Alper Yilmaz
Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz emerged as a potential target for Liverpool this summer following his impressive Euro 2024 campaign with Turkey. Despite not scoring, he contributed significantly to Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig title win with six goals and seven assists. Liverpool reportedly made a $33 million (£25m/€30m) offer for Yilmaz, and if he continues to perform well, the Reds might make another attempt next summer.
