Liverpool transfer update as new Martin Zubimendi link emerges and $37m Fulham star reportedly targeted
Share
Liverpool is reportedly planning to make a renewed attempt to sign Martin Zubimendi in January, following their summer pursuit of the Real Sociedad midfielder. Additionally, the Reds are also eyeing future defensive reinforcements.
Arne Slot will be pleased with his team’s current position, sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, but as Liverpool’s manager, he is likely keen to strengthen the squad further to ensure the team maintains its current form.
Although the Dutch coach inherited a solid squad from Jurgen Klopp, the hectic fixture list means that adding more depth will be crucial to avoid potential injury crises—something they’ve managed to narrowly avoid so far.
Naturally, supporters will be hoping that Richard Hughes prioritizes securing new contracts for key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk. However, with only two signings made during the summer window, it wouldn’t be surprising if January proves to be a busy month for Liverpool.
Having had a few months to assess his squad, the Dutchman will now have a clearer idea of who fits into his long-term plans and who might be leaving Merseyside sooner than expected. Below, Liverpool.com provides the latest transfer updates surrounding the club.
Liverpool Eyes New Bid for Martin Zubimendi
Liverpool is said to be targeting another move for Martin Zubimendi in the January transfer window, though they will face competition from an English rival. The Reds spent much of the summer attempting to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder, and it appeared likely that the Spanish international would join the Premier League, but he ultimately chose to stay with his boyhood club.
According to Teamtalk, Zubimendi remains Liverpool’s primary target for January, with the club reportedly having a “very good chance” of securing the 25-year-old’s signature. However, Arsenal is also in the running to hijack the deal. Both clubs were reportedly willing to meet his €60m (£50.1m, $66.7m) release clause, which will still be valid in January. Despite their setback in the summer, Liverpool is undeterred in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Liverpool Target $37m Fulham Defender
With Virgil van Dijk’s contract situation unresolved, Liverpool is keeping an eye on potential defensive options in case their captain decides to leave next summer. The Reds have not signed a center-back in two consecutive transfer windows, despite lacking depth in this position.
Liverpool is reportedly interested in Joachim Andersen, a Fulham center-back who only joined the club on a five-year deal last summer.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Juventus are all monitoring the Danish international, but no decision has been made regarding his future. While all three clubs are keeping tabs on Andersen, he may not be their top target at this stage.
