Alberto Moleiro

A Spanish star who has been compared to Philippe Coutinho in style has previously been linked to Liverpool. According to the most recent sources, he might suddenly be offered for half price.

It would have made sense for Liverpool to look at adding another forward this summer even if they hadn’t been having problems in front of goal lately. There are even more games to fit in with the new Champions League structure, so the team must be able to meet the demands.

The need to constantly replenish that area of the pitch during a game is another reason why Arne Slot loves wingers and has previously stated openly that he wants a large number of them on his roster. All of this makes the case for adding another player who can fill that role even stronger.

In recent years, Liverpool has made a lot of moves to get some of the top adolescent players available, snatching up players like Harvey Elliott for pitiful sums of money before their valuations skyrocketed. With players like Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon, and Bobby Clark vying to advance, that approach has already started to pay dividends and may continue to do so in the future.

However, connections have recently been made with a different youthful talent, who, while undoubtedly more expensive than those other names, has already demonstrated that he or she is headed for success. Alberto Moleiro, a 21-year-old Spanish prospect, is reportedly liked by Liverpool.

It has now been reported in today’s AS (print edition via Sport Witness) that Liverpool has been working for’months’ to recruit Moleiro, while Inter Milan is reportedly also interested. According to reports, Las Palmas is eager to sell the player for half of the $64 million (£52 million/€60 million) release clause in his contract, and the player is aware that the moment may have come.

Alberto Moleiro

He has already been connected to a couple moves to Anfield. And you’re probably headed in the right path if Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid are all vying for your signature.

According to an AS story published in Spain in November 2022, Liverpool was reportedly considering a transfer for a Spanish wonderkid who is also being pursued by Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. Arsenal and Manchester City were included to the same list by Mundo Deportivo in December.

According to the AS article, Jürgen Klopp is a huge fan of the player, and Liverpool’s scouting department has provided “very good” reports on his exploits in the second division of Spain. According to Cadena Ser, transfer negotiations between Barcelona and Camp Nou have paused in 2023, but the Camp Nou team is still interested.

Moleiro’s play style is similar to that of Philippe Coutinho. He has a slight build and a tendency to move the ball onto his right foot from a starting position to the left of the pitch. He is silky, skilled, and never afraid to drop his shoulder and work the ball onto his preferred foot. Moleiro also frequently plays cutting through-balls or unleashes curling long-range attempts.

Compared to when the links initially surfaced and he was still a youngster, he has a better chance of moving to England at the age of 21 and adjusting. As much for the fact that the Barcelona starlet also played for Las Palmas in the past as anything else, Moleiro—dubbed the “new Pedri” by Goal in October 2022—will be moving sooner rather than later.

According to local media outlet Canarias7, Barcelona even made an attempt to replicate the Pedri trade in 2022 by placing a bid of $10.6 million (£8.9 million/€10 million) for the gifted adolescent. That was insufficient to get him to sign, and Las Palmas will probably hold out for more given the amount of interest from throughout Europe.

Even at half of his release clause, though, that might work out to be a good deal. Moleiro’s career is already headed in the correct direction, and a major move is inevitable. Liverpool should be in the running for a few attacking additions in the summer, then choose the best one.
