Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano shares transfer updates on two Chelsea forward targets

Fabrizio Romano has provided an exclusive Chelsea transfer update on two forwards who have been linked with the Blues this summer.
In his CaughtOffside column on Substack, Romano explained what’s going on with Elye Wahi and Dusan Vlahovic, who have both been touted as possible solutions to Chelsea’s woes at the top in various outlets this summer.
Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have both joined Chelsea this season but it remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino could use more options in this area of the pitch, especially with Nkunku now injured.
Still, it looks like Wahi will now move to Lens as he wanted to play in the Champions League, while the Vlahovic deal doesn’t seem possible at the moment as the deal also depends on Romelu Lukaku joining Juventus.
Romano said: “Elye Wahi was close to joining Chelsea and then being loaned to Strasbourg. West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt were also interested in Wahi but he decided to stay in Ligue 1 and join Lens – he wants to play Champions League football and has the chance to replace Loic Openda at Lens. It is therefore an important deal for the French club, he is moving for 35 M€.
“Dusan Vlahovic was also recently linked with Chelsea but he could still stay at Juventus for sure. At the moment this deal is on hold and nothing is happening.
“Let’s see what happens with Chelsea. I don’t know what’s next, but as of today, it’s totally on demand. “And it’s also worth pointing out that Vlahovic-Chelsea was just a possibility discussed with Romelu Lukaku as part of the deal, not without Lukaku.”
The transfer news pundit also added that Paris Saint-Germain appear to be favorites over Chelsea for the signing of Bradley Barcola. of many players who follow.
“Barcola is one of the best young talents in the world right now, so it’s true that Chelsea are watching him, as they always watch this type of player.
“However, from what I’ve been told, PSG remain the club in more advanced talks with player-side Barcola. They remain favorites as they started talks some time ago, but Chelsea remain aware of the situation so let’s see how this plays out.” will develop”.

Opinion: After being ignored for years, Chelsea have a midfield to be reckoned with
Once Chelsea confirm the signing of Romeo Lavia, they will have assembled one of the best midfielders in world football in two transfer windows.
This area of the pitch has been neglected by the club for years. Chelsea haven’t had a proper defensive midfielder since Nemanja Matic and he left our club in 2017.
Since then we’ve had some decent midfielders (some very good), but overall our midfield was nowhere near good enough, unbalanced and lacking the right profiles to compete in the Premier League.
If you want to win consistently and be a consistent force in world football, you have to make sure you have the perfect team engine, which is the midfield. And this starts from the base, with a defensive midfielder.
Chelsea now with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia on standby, they have absolutely everything in midfield now and it’s a fantastic moment and a fantastic feeling for us Blues fans.
Enzo single-handedly led our midfield and team last season when we had a horrible year in football, but now he finally has the help he needs and deserves.
Caicedo and Lavia will provide the defensive stability and awareness we’ve needed for so long, as well as the athleticism and physicality. Both players know how to defend, close the distance, intercept and tackle: all things that we have lacked a lot. Then Enzo will be free for them to do what he does best and that is to create and shoot.
Enzo actually has a really good shot with him and knows how to find the net, but last season he was so blocked we never saw him. He also has great vision and an eye for passing, and he’s now being given the freedom to do all of that.
It’s literally a dream come true for Chelsea fans and it still feels like that, a big dream! But it’s not a dream, Chelsea now have a VERY good and capable midfield with the perfect complementary profiles for each other. What a future they have, and they’re all young, so it’s a future we should see thrive and improve and have for many years to come!
