Five players have already made their transfer intentions clear to Liverpool ahead of the January window

The January transfer window is rapidly approaching, presenting an ideal chance for Liverpool to bolster its title challenge, with five players already drawing attention.

As the transfer window looms, Liverpool faces a dilemma: should they stay the course or make changes?

Under Arne Slot’s guidance, Liverpool has surged to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings, thanks to an extraordinary start at Anfield. However, much remains to be decided, and to secure silverware in his debut season, Slot may need to strengthen his squad in January.

With Chelsea closing in on Liverpool, now may be the perfect time to fortify their title push. Several players have already demonstrated what they could contribute to the Reds, making them potential targets this winter.

Liverpool.com has identified five players that could help Slot’s side claim the Premier League title if signed in the January transfer window.

Antonee Robinson

Should Antonee Robinson be eyeing a move to Anfield – and his recent comments suggest he might be – he certainly improved his chances with a standout performance on Saturday. The USMNT left-back was exceptional for Fulham, managing to largely neutralize Mohamed Salah, no small feat.

However, Robinson will turn 28 at the start of next season, which may count against him, as Liverpool tends to favor younger players, aiming to maximize their future resale value. That said, if Liverpool seeks an immediate backup to Andy Robertson, Robinson would be a solid choice.

Milos Kerkez

While Robinson may not be the ideal fit, Milos Kerkez certainly is. At just 21, he has plenty of room to develop before reaching his peak.

Despite Bournemouth’s 3-0 defeat at Anfield in September, Kerkez stood out. He is already well-known within Liverpool, having been signed by the club’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, during his time at Bournemouth. Moreover, the Daily Mail has suggested that Kerkez caught the eye of Slot while playing for AC Milan.

This move makes perfect sense for Liverpool, especially with the club potentially seeking a long-term successor to Robertson. Kerkez appears to be an excellent option.

Jeremie Frimpong

While Conor Bradley seems poised to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold should the Liverpool vice-captain depart for Real Madrid next summer, Liverpool might already have an alternative in mind. Jeremie Frimpong impressed during Bayer Leverkusen’s encounter with Liverpool, and as a wing-back in Germany, Frimpong offers an even more attacking threat.

Whether Frimpong’s wing-back style would work for Liverpool and Slot, or if Bradley’s more traditional role would be better, remains to be seen. However, recent reports suggest Frimpong’s agent was invited to Anfield for the Champions League clash.

Bryan Mbeumo

While Salah, Erling Haaland, and Cole Palmer have garnered most of the attention in the Premier League’s golden boot race, Bryan Mbeumo has quietly been exceptional. With 10 league goals for Brentford this season, Mbeumo continues to impress in Thomas Frank’s system. Although he didn’t have much of an impact in Brentford’s 2-0 loss at Anfield in August, Mbeumo is a hard-working, left-footed right-winger – a profile that suits Liverpool’s needs.

Reports suggest that Liverpool is keeping tabs on Mbeumo, and at 25, he could be seen as a potential successor to Salah.

Murillo

Nottingham Forest’s unexpected rise in the standings has been largely credited to their solid defense, with Murillo playing a central role. The Brazilian has already been linked with Liverpool, although those rumors didn’t materialize earlier in the year. However, his name continues to surface as a potential option, especially with Virgil van Dijk’s future uncertain.

Slot would remember Forest’s strong performance at Anfield in September, and though the 1-0 defeat still stings, securing a new center-back might make it worthwhile.
