Following a 'secret chat' in the England camp, Anthony Gordon believes that his genuine sentiments for Liverpool have been revealed.

When Newcastle started to freak out about their PSR requirements in late June, they offered England winger Anthony Gordon to Liverpool before selling two young players to balance the books.

Anthony Gordon talked to his England teammates about perhaps moving to Liverpool.

The Reds, who he grew up supporting, showed interest in the Newcastle winger in June as the Magpies struggled to follow Premier League PSR regulations. Gordon was made available to Liverpool as Toon management worked to address their budgetary shortfall in an effort to avoid losing any more points.

Before July began, Newcastle was able to balance their books with further transactions, as young players Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh went to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, respectively.

However, Gordon, who is currently representing England at Euro 2024, freely discussed with his international teammates his desire to move to Liverpool after just one and a half years at St James’ Park, according to Telegraph Sport.

The 23-year-old, who is now playing for the Three Lions at Euro 2024, was never officially targeted by Liverpool, and it is believed that negotiations about a transfer did not progress to the point where Newcastle’s PSR problems would have been resolved on their own. They would have needed to sell one more anyway.

Outside the two clubs, much was made about Newcastle’s and Liverpool’s interest in doing a trade, with Gordon far down the list of players the Magpies were ready to let go of. To address their financial issues, they were able to secure £33 million for Minteh and £35 million for Anderson.

It’s doubtful that this is a move that will resurface in the future. Newcastle will not entertain selling him for a low price after he was crowned the Premier League team’s player of the season in the previous campaign.

In addition, Newcastle will likely offer Gordon a new contract after he returns and want to make sure he’s comfortable. Before the first whistle blows, you may get your hands on the brand-new Nike home and away kits for the Three Lions, who are among the favourites to win the Euro 2024 competition this summer.

Gordon played a minute-long cameo in the 0-0 draw against Slovenia in his lone outing at the Euros this summer.

Thanks to his directness and danger-causing ability in his preferred position, many fans have advocated for the services of the pacy winger, suggesting Gordon start on the left side instead of Phil Foden.
