‘I would be lying’: Anthony Gordon delivers another big Liverpool hint after transfer speculation.

Last month, Liverpool were linked with a summer transfer bid for ex-Everton player Anthony Gordon.
Anthony Gordon admits he has “more motivation” while playing against the side he grew up supporting.
The Newcastle United winger has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool and is thought to have grown up supporting the Reds, despite his recent Everton appearances.
Gordon began his career with the Reds but was released at the age of 11 to join Everton, their city rivals. Last January, he left the Blues for Newcastle in a £40 million move.
According to The Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in signing the England international this summer, but it would require “an offer close to £100 million to seriously test Newcastle’s resolve.”
Though he has yet to publicly affirm his passion for Liverpool, the 23-year-old has clearly hinted that he has been trying to prove a point when facing the Reds.
When asked by Sky Sports how he tackles games against the team he supported as a child, the winger replied, “It’s the same as any other match.” My preparation is consistent regardless of who I’m competing against. It is always at the peak of its performance. I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t greater motivation to simply show up and do well.”
Gordon did little to warm up to Liverpool supporters on his first visit to Anfield in April 2022, collecting a yellow card for diving in the first half and later collapsing inside the penalty area following minimal contact from Joel Matip. Gordon took to X (previously Twitter) following the match to voice his amazement at the verdict.
But, endearing himself to Reds fans in recent years, he picked Steven Gerrard as his favourite player growing up and Mohamed Salah as a source of inspiration for his playing.
Going one step further, the England international was recently asked to describe the best environment he has observed on the football ground. He told Channel 4: “Apart from St James’ Park, it’s Anfield by far. I believe I grew up watching it since I was raised in the city. It’s on point when they sing You’ll Never Walk Alone before the game.”

Liverpool ‘prioritise’ Michael Olise’s transfer after revising summer plans
Liverpool are once again linked with a bid for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, after apparently moving on from a previous transfer target.
The Reds have yet to announce any fresh acquisitions ahead of the start of the summer transfer window later this month. However, rumours regarding who players Liverpool could sign to enhance their team persist.
Arne Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s new head coach, is still in the early stages of his tenure. Slot will begin evaluating his squad during pre-season training next month, after which he and the players will travel to the United States for three friendlies.
Before then, Liverpool is expected to be linked with many more players as the summer transfer market progresses. Olise is one such player, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal all reportedly interested in him in recent weeks.
