Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s transfer activity shows no signs of slowing down, with midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia
Jurgen Klopp has already signed two players this summer, so who will be the next star to move to Merseyside?
Alexis Mac Allister was the first player to join Klopp’s squad during the current spell, with Liverpool initially paying £35m for the Brighton midfielder – a bargain in many people’s eyes.
The World Cup winner was soon followed by Dominik Szoboszlai after the Reds activated the Hungarian captain’s £60m release clause at RB Leipzig.
Mbappe gives approval
Klopp is looking to rebuild his side after a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season. The Liverpool manager has already greeted a number of fan favorites this summer, including Roberto Firmino and James Milner.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are interested in Rennes winger Jeremy Doku. The 21-year-old Belgian international scored seven goals and provided four assists for Rennes last season and has two years left on his contract.
Liverpool are said to be prioritizing strengthening other parts of their squad but could dive in for Doku if the price is right. Napoli, Milan and Aston Villa would also consider an offer for the player, who would prefer to move to the Premier League.
Doku has many admirers, including Kylian Mbappé. The World Cup winner told France Football in 2021: “I was recently talking to my father about a player who impressed me from the stands… with his speed, this is Doku, in Rennes.”
Rennes have reportedly put a €40million price tag on Doku. As quoted by Get French Football News, Mbappé added: “In five years as a professional I have never seen anyone demonstrate such power from a standing start.”
Saudi latest.
Fabinho will remain a Liverpool player for now. As reported by the Liverpool ECHO, the Reds and Al-Ittihad are still in talks over a £40m transfer. The 29-year-old Brazilian international has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season training camp in Germany.
Club captain Jordan Henderson is also wanted by a Saudi club – Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq – and his future is at stake. But unlike Fabinho, the 33-year-old midfielder is in Germany with the rest of the Liverpool squad.
If Fabinho or Henderson leave Liverpool this summer, Klopp should sign another central midfielder. Sofyan Amrabat, the Fiorentina star who helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of last year’s World Cup in Qatar, is rumored.
According to the Daily Mail, Fiorentina want £25m for Amrabat. The 26-year-old’s contract is just one year old and is wanted by several clubs, including Manchester United. In Liverpool’s eyes, this could be problematic for two reasons.
United can offer Amrabat something Liverpool cannot – Champions League football – and the player has worked with Erik ten Hag before. Amrabat’s breakthrough as a professional came in Utrecht when Ten Hag was in charge of the Dutch team.

After two deals, Liverpool can use their strong relationship to land the ideal midfielder.
Comment: Liverpool can complete a significant transfer by building strong ties with other clubs, Liverpool can take advantage of their relationship with Brighton to close a deal on Moises Caicedo, who is a transfer target. Since many players have moved from the South Coast to Merseyside and vice versa, the Premier League clubs enjoy a great working relationship.
The Reds just finished contract talks with Brighton for playmaker Alexis MacAllister worth £35 million. The Argentine joined well in advance of the start of preseason, and those negotiations were reportedly easy.
Numerous reports claim that Liverpool is now interested in competing with Chelsea for Caicedo, a former Brighton teammate of Mac Allister. The Reds need midfield reinforcements as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are now likely to leave, despite claims that Chelsea hold the upper hand in a potential deal.
Liverpool already had a shortage in midfielders, so if the two leave, they will need yet another player. They will have Caicedo, who is a star, ready to join Mac Allister in Klopp’s team right away.
They might benefit from utilizing their strong connection to Brighton. The Seagulls were willing to accept a cheap £35 million price for Mac Allister after engaging in vigorous discussion. The opposite move has recently been made by Adam Lallana and James Milner.
With Klopp currently looking for another new midfielder, the club can now resume discussions regarding Caicedo. While Brighton retained their former head coach Graham Potter, defender Marc Cucurella, and a large number of their backroom staff, Chelsea may have a more challenging relationship with Brighton as a result.
Levi Colwill is another player that the Blues won’t transfer to a South Coast club. Liverpool is rumored to be interested in the England U21 defender as well.
As for the 2023–24 Premier League season, Liverpool manager Klopp anticipates fielding a very different team than the one that struggled mightily the previous campaign. The German is counting on the club’s young players to stand out in preseason to make up for the lack of new signings.
“There aren’t many new players right now, but [we have] a lot of young players, obviously, in and young players for whom the door is open, who can play a different role next season,” Klopp said, according to the club’s website.
Conor Bradley, Ben Doak, and Bobby Clark are all a year older and all looking fantastic. Bobby Clark also grew in some way, which is typical. They can all take on slightly different roles if they so choose, and as I previously stated, there is room for that. ”.
