LFC transfer news as Richard Hughes ‘makes $65 million bid’ amid Anthony Gordon speculation
Share
Richard Hughes is said to have placed a substantial bid for a defender, and there are new rumours circulating regarding Anthony Gordon following his connections to Anfield in the Liverpool transfer news.
The first Arne Slot-era move is still pending for Liverpool. When that happens, it will also be the first contract of the Richard Hughes era. The sporting director, who came from Bournemouth, may now be looking to sign a big first contract.
Anthony Gordon remains the ideal catch, and not just because of the Everton fuming. However, it is unclear if Liverpool would try to salvage a deal as Newcastle managed to avoid selling its player of the year by making it through the June 30 PSR deadline.
On that front, though, there have been further developments despite rumours that Gordon’s mind may have been changed by the projected move to Anfield. Hughes is working hard on other possible transactions in the meanwhile.
Slot will soon have a better idea of what has to be done in the market as more first-team players return for preseason training. The Liverpool.com opinion on the transfer rumours circulating about the Reds today, including the most recent on Gordon and a purported high-ball offer, is as follows.
Gordon Anthony (Newcastle)
Gordon is reportedly still preoccupied after the brief period of time when it appeared like a move to Liverpool was imminent. He has been a longtime Reds supporter, therefore it’s believed he was excited about the move.
The Daily Star reports that he is in a marked state of mind within the England camp. There is “growing concern” that he is not focusing on his training because of the possible Liverpool move. Some have suggested that he might have “taken his eye off the ball.”
Furthermore, he isn’t anticipated to make an impression on Gareth Southgate’s team in the remaining Euro 2024 matches, which include the semi-final matchup with the Netherlands.
According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle has put a $128 million (£100 million/€118 million) price tag on Gordon. That virtually puts a stop to Liverpool’s chances of signing him this summer.
According to Liverpool.com: Gordon is someone to watch, although perhaps not as much this summer as next. For the duration of this transfer window, Newcastle can afford to batten down the hatches, but the winger’s future will come up again soon enough if the team can’t agree on new terms.
The whole PSR story has ultimately led Liverpool to realise how eager Gordon would be to join. His Everton history won’t be a hindrance. Thus, it has the financial means to wait patiently for the exorbitant price to drop.
And who knows, perhaps Gordon’s head isn’t really in the proper place? Perhaps Hughes still has this summer to salvage a move.
Bremer Gleison (Juventus)
According to Fichajes, Liverpool has moved to bolster the defence. Liverpool reportedly offered $65 million (£55 million/€60 million) for Juventus centre defender Gleison Bremer.
Bremer is older than the average Liverpool acquisition at 27, and Hughes is expected to stick with the youth-first strategy. However, it appears that the Brazilian’s “solidity and experience” are what the Reds desire to have.
There are rumours that other elite clubs in the Premier League and throughout Europe are also interested. Juventus is hopeful that there becomes a bidding battle.
According to Liverpool.com: Simply said, this does not appear to be a Liverpool move. Perhaps if Bremer had been three years younger, but the Reds won’t give up this much money for a player who is already close to reaching his prime. Or, perhaps, that would never have happened with the old Liverpool.
Now that a new period has begun, maybe Hughes may approach things differently, but given that Michael Edwards is now in charge of overall strategy, it would be unusual to witness such a significant shift.
