Liverpool prepared to rival Arsenal for €60million Martin Zubimendi

Exclusive: Liverpool is prepared to push Arsenal, their tittle rivals, to sign Martin Zubimendi.

According to Anfield Watch, the Reds would be willing to pay the €60 million (£51 million) release clause in order to capture the midfield player from Real Sociedad.

With the Spain international in excellent form in La Liga, Liverpool intends to go all out and challenge the Gunners for his signature.

Longtime supporters of the 25-year-old, Mikel Arteta’s group is rumoured to be preparing a bid for the summer.

The Liverpool interest stems from rumours that the team is still in search of a premier player to play at the base of their midfield.

This season, Alexis Mac Allister, a £35 million summer acquisition, has been utilised as a “number six.” Still, there are unanswered concerns regarding the Argentina international’s long-term role.

Wataru Endo, the captain of Japan, turns 31 this month, but Jurgen Klopp has also had the opportunity to call on him in the centre of the engine room.

IDOLISING ALONSO

Zubimendi was mentored by Alonso throughout his tenure as coach at Real Sociedad B, and in 2020, he made his debut with the big squad.

In 2022, Zubimendi told the Guardian, in response to questions concerning the similarities with Alonso: “He’s an idol to me, a role model, so I’m delighted that he says nice things about me.”

The problem is, I believe the reverse is true. I get asked about him so much that I think people are tired of hearing about him. I’ll become weary of gushing about him to him.

Zubimendi has made 174 appearances for Real Sociedad’s main team and scored seven goals during that time.
