Liverpool’s Interest in Signing “Expensive” Premier League Winger Was More Substantial Than Arsenal’s

Despite various transfer speculations about Arsenal, journalist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool demonstrated the strongest interest in acquiring Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.
Gordon, a promising young England international who has made a notable impact in the Premier League recently, made it challenging for Newcastle to retain him during the transfer window.
Romano, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest Daily Briefing column, downplayed Arsenal’s links to Gordon, asserting that the Gunners did not intend to spend significant money on a new winger this season.
According to Romano, Gordon would likely have been too pricey for Arsenal. He mentioned that Liverpool engaged in discussions about a potential deal but ultimately decided against it due to Gordon’s high asking price.
Gordon Transfer: Liverpool’s Interest More Substantial Than Arsenal’s
While Arsenal may hold an interest in Gordon and the 23-year-old is likely valued by several top clubs, there currently isn’t much to update on this topic based on Romano’s comments.
Romano noted, “Liverpool were the club in talks to sign Gordon in June. I don’t have any concrete info on Arsenal also because they never really planned to spend crazy money on a winger this summer. Liverpool wanted him in June but then he was too expensive.”
Newcastle’s ability to assert their position on this key player was commendable, and supporters will be relieved that they managed to deter clubs like Liverpool from pursuing him.
Overall, the Magpies had a successful summer in this regard, successfully retaining key players such as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.

Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal might compete for the same Premier League player next year
Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all monitoring their transfer targets for the upcoming year.
These Premier League giants made significant investments in their squads this summer and are expected to compete fiercely for the title this season.
Off the pitch, they are also set to battle each other for Premier League talent.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo has caught the attention of top English clubs due to his consistent performances.
According to HITC, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are all interested in acquiring the Brentford forward.
His impressive performances have been somewhat overshadowed by Ivan Toney’s presence at the club.
Nevertheless, Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa stepped up to lead the team’s attack during Toney’s suspension due to his betting ban.
The report suggests that Mbuemo could become one of the most sought-after players next year, given the interest from numerous clubs.
He meets the criteria that clubs are currently prioritizing, performing well in the data and analytics that many recruitment teams use today.
Brentford will aim to secure the player with a long-term contract.
Man City, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all interested in Mbuemo.
Currently, he has two years remaining on his deal, but the Bees are expected to offer him an extended contract with enhanced terms.
The Cameroon international excels both as a scorer and a creator, and his versatility in attacking roles makes him a valuable asset for any team that signs him.
He has begun the new season strongly, scoring three goals in three games so far, including a brace in Brentford’s 3-1 victory over Southampton last week.
