Jose Enrique, a former Liverpool player, has praised Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal after learning that Jurrien Timber, a player who has also been linked with a move to Anfield, is about to sign with the Gunners.
Jurrien Timber, who was also on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool’s radar during the summer transfer window, has reportedly been agreed upon by Arsenal and Ajax.
The 22-year-old, who can play either right-back or in the center of defense, is expected to have a medical with the Gunners.
Liverpool reportedly expressed interest in Timber back in March, according to 90min.
According to the report, the Dutch international is also being considered by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Jose Enrique reacts to the possibility that Arsenal will sign Jurrien Timber before Liverpool.
Liverpool to miss out
Liverpool would benefit from Jurrien Timber’s versatility as a very good defender.
We think the young player would have been a great addition to Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside club could use a young, talented center back in their lineup for the upcoming season and beyond.
Additionally, Timber would have improved the defense for Liverpool given his background playing for Ajax in the Eredivisie and throughout Europe.
For the Netherlands’ national football team, Timber is a teammate of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who holds Timber in high regard.
In 34 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax last year, Timber scored two goals and provided two assists.
In addition, the defender played two goals in the UEFA Europa League for the Dutch team last season and made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
