Despite this, it is claimed a deal is ‘closer’, although Sky Sports added that United ‘have their eyes set on a valuation they are unlikely to go beyond’.

When Liverpool waived Bellingham, they clearly decided to spread their funds across multiple midfielders which has paid off so far.

A deal for Alexis Mac Allister was valued at just £35million, with no further payments to be made at Brighton, according to This Is Anfield reports. Meanwhile, the latest reports from Nice suggest French midfielder Khephren Thuram – likely to sign up next – will be available for a similar fee.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone is priced in the same region, with Liverpool expected to bring in two more to join Mac Allister.
