Liverpool Injury Update and Potential Return Dates for Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool's injury concerns have eased recently

Liverpool’s injury concerns have eased recently with the returns of Alisson, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa. However, several players are still sidelined during one of the busiest periods of the season.

In the past week, Liverpool’s injury situation has improved, with Alisson, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa rejoining Arne Slot’s squad. Alisson made his comeback in the Champions League match against Girona, while Jota came off the bench to secure a draw for the Reds against Fulham on Saturday.

Despite these positive returns, a few players are still recovering, and here’s the latest update on their injuries, along with some suspension details.

    Ibrahima Konate
Konate injured his knee during stoppage time of Liverpool’s win against Real Madrid at the end of November, after a clash with Endrick and Virgil van Dijk. It was initially reported that the French center-back would be sidelined for five to six weeks, missing all of Liverpool’s games in a packed December schedule.

What Slot has said: “They will both (Konate and Conor Bradley) be out for a few weeks. I have said many times before, it’s always difficult to judge how many weeks this exactly is because you can think in the beginning it’ll be like this and then the end stage of an injury process can always differ a bit.” – quote from December 1.

    Expected return date: January 2025

    Conor Bradley
Bradley also picked up an injury in the Madrid game, as his excellent performance was interrupted by a hamstring issue in the second half. The Belfast Telegraph reported shortly after the match that the Northern Ireland international was expected to be out for about six weeks.

What Slot has said: “They will both (Bradley and Ibrahima Konate) be out for a few weeks. I have said many times before, it’s always difficult to judge how many weeks this exactly is because you can think in the beginning it’ll be like this and then the end stage of an injury process can always differ a bit.” – quote from December 1.

    Expected return date: January 2025

    Kostas Tsimikas
Tsimikas hasn’t played for Liverpool since early November due to an ankle injury, but he returned to training last week and could be ready for a return in the coming days.

Possible return date: 18 December vs Southampton or 22 December vs Tottenham

    Andy Robertson

Liverpool's injury concerns have eased recently

Due to Tsimikas’ injury, Robertson has featured in all of Liverpool’s last seven matches across all competitions. However, he will miss the next match after being sent off against Fulham. He will serve his suspension during the Carabao Cup match against Southampton and will be available for the upcoming trip to Spurs.

Expected return date: 22 December vs Tottenham

    Alexis Mac Allister
Mac Allister has missed consecutive matches due to suspensions, first in the Champions League against Girona and then in the Premier League against Fulham. His last appearance was in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle on November 4. He will be well-rested when he returns, likely against Southampton this week.

Expected return date: 18 December vs Southampton

Liverpool Transfer Update: Negotiations Begin for Mo Salah's Successor as Star Speaks Out

Liverpool seems to be exploring options regarding Mohamed Salah’s future as the star forward heads towards a potential exit when his contract expires next summer. While Liverpool remain at the top of the Premier League, their recent draw with Fulham has them keeping a close eye on the competition.

The January transfer window presents an opportunity for manager Arne Slot to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the title race. However, he also faces the potential departures of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are out of contract next summer, with no official announcements yet about new deals for any of them. As the possibility of their exits looms, Liverpool seems to be seeking replacements.

Unlike Salah, who has openly expressed his frustration with club owners FSG, Alexander-Arnold is trying to keep his situation low-key. Here, Mirror Football provides the latest updates on Liverpool’s transfer news.

    Discussions with Salah’s Potential Replacement

Reports indicate that Liverpool have initiated talks with Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane regarding a potential transfer to Anfield, as uncertainty grows over Salah’s future. Both Salah and Sane will become free agents in the summer.

According to BILD, the Reds are considering Sane as a possible successor for their Egyptian star should he depart. The 28-year-old, who previously played four years at Manchester City and has 67 caps for Germany, could return to England if Bayern opts not to renew his contract. Sane is regarded as one of Europe’s top wingers and has been previously linked with Liverpool.

    Target Hints at Departure

Lyon’s Rayan Cherki has not ruled out leaving the French club in the near future, with Liverpool believed to be keeping an eye on the 21-year-old. Cherki has impressed for Lyon, scoring 22 goals and providing 31 assists in 157 appearances across all competitions.

Though he signed a 12-month contract extension in September, keeping him at Lyon until June 2026, the club’s financial struggles could prompt a sale to generate funds, a possibility Cherki seems to acknowledge. When asked about his future after Lyon’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, Cherki bluntly responded, “We’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not.”

    Alexander-Arnold Speaks on Future

Amid ongoing rumors linking him to Real Madrid, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has stated that he will not publicly discuss his contract situation. The 26-year-old, whose current contract expires in June 2025, has been consistently linked with a move to Madrid, who are reportedly keen to sign him on a free transfer next summer. However, the right-back has made it clear that he intends to keep his future private.

“I have been at the club 20 years now and I have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of those have been played out in public,” Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports. “This one won’t be either.”

  • Marco Silva shares ’emotional’ reflection on Anfield after experiencing ‘the power of Liverpool’

Marco Silva shares ’emotional’ reflection on Anfield after experiencing ‘the power of Liverpool’

    Marco Silva

Fulham drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, despite having a man advantage for over 70 minutes following Andy Robertson’s red card.

Marco Silva acknowledged that Fulham felt the “power of Liverpool” after his team was held by their 10-man opponents. Substitute Diogo Jota netted a late equaliser, securing a 2-2 draw for the Reds, even though they had played most of the match with a numerical disadvantage after Robertson’s red card.

Liverpool had already fallen behind to Andreas Pereira’s early goal for Fulham, who regained the lead in the latter stages through Rodrigo Muniz after Cody Gakpo’s second-half equaliser.

Silva expressed that his team should have come away with more from the match but admitted that they struggled to handle the Anfield atmosphere.

“It’s a mix of feelings,” said Silva. “When you are leading the score twice and Liverpool have had 70 minutes playing with 10 men, we have the feeling we should have won the game.”

He continued, “We have that strange feeling we could have got more. But the power of Liverpool had an impact as well. I am pleased with the performance but to lead twice against 10 men with 70 minutes, we should have taken the three points.”

Silva went on to discuss the team’s strong start, saying, “The way we started the game, we showed trust in ourselves as well. We have massive respect for Liverpool and the quality they have. When you come here, if you try to match them there will be difficulties as it’s emotional (the crowd) and if you are open, the quality they have with the crowd behind them, they can be unstoppable.”

“We started so well and scored, and our dynamic up front created a lot of problems for them,” Silva added.

He acknowledged that the red card affected the game, stating, “The red card had an impact, of course. It made the game a bit more emotional.”

“The crowd played their part and Liverpool’s players did as well, they took more risks and played more man to man, and we should have kept the ball more ourselves and tried to make them run more. That’s something I felt we had a lack of.”

Silva reflected on Fulham’s adjustments at half-time, noting, “We tried to adjust at half-time that situation to keep the ball more, the early goal from Liverpool had a massive impact on it but we reacted well and scored the 2-1 but they equalised again.”

“We arrived in dangerous areas so many times, especially on our left side, and we knew Salah would play a bit more inside and we should have created more problems than we did,” Silva said.

He concluded, “The second goal we scored was more or less the same as the first goal (in how we created it). But we should have taken better decisions to have more clear shots at goal.”

  • Liverpool take significant step towards signing ideal Mo Salah replacement

Liverpool take significant step towards signing ideal Mo Salah replacement

Liverpool may land a new Roberto Firmino as $68m Arne Slot 'priority' appears to be a smart move.

It has been known for some time that Liverpool may need to find replacements for both Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold by the end of this season.

Although no one wanted to confront the reality of this possibility, the idea is certainly alarming. Real Madrid is reportedly interested in acquiring Alexander-Arnold, while Saudi Arabia is positioning itself to offer Salah a lucrative contract.

As a result, Liverpool has been exploring a range of potential replacements for the duo.

One such option is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutch player has primarily played as a right-back throughout his career, especially during Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title-winning campaign last season.

When initial rumors surfaced, and Liverpool even invited Frimpong’s agent to a director’s box during Leverkusen’s visit to Anfield earlier this season, fans started to discuss the possibility of replacing Alexander-Arnold with Frimpong.

However, something unexpected has occurred this season – Frimpong has been deployed as a right-winger.

Is Jeremie Frimpong the potential replacement for Salah?

    Jeremie Frimpong

Leverkusen’s acquisition of Nordi Mukiele on loan from PSG to play as a full-back has enabled Frimpong to move forward into a more attacking role.

As a result, Frimpong’s signing might not be intended as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, but rather for Mo Salah.

Looking at the heatmaps for Frimpong and Salah this season, it’s striking how difficult it is to distinguish between the two (for reference, Frimpong’s is the first, Salah’s the second).

    In contrast, here is Alexander-Arnold’s.

Why Jeremie Frimpong could be the ideal Salah replacement

It’s clear that Frimpong is occupying attacking areas typically associated with an out-and-out attacker, while Alexander-Arnold has more defensive responsibilities.

Frimpong has also been involved in nine goals across all competitions this season, adding to his 26 goal contributions from last year.

Though replacing Salah is an enormous challenge, it’s evident that Frimpong possesses the attacking qualities that head coach Arne Slot could further nurture.

Therefore, if Liverpool were to pursue him, Frimpong would likely be a better fit as Salah’s successor rather than Alexander-Arnold’s.

This is a captivating turn in an ongoing transfer saga that could shape the future of Liverpool Football Club.

  • Liverpool may land a new Roberto Firmino as $68m Arne Slot ‘priority’ appears to be a smart move

Liverpool may land a new Roberto Firmino as $68m Arne Slot ‘priority’ appears to be a smart move

Liverpool is reportedly targeting a player who could become the next Roberto Firmino, with this potential transfer making perfect sense for Arne Slot in 2025.

Currently, there aren’t many areas of Liverpool’s squad raising concerns. Leading both the Premier League and the Champions League, Arne Slot’s team is in a strong position.

However, there are a few uncertainties in the forward line for the medium term. Therefore, it’s interesting to note that, according to Brazilian outlet UOL, Liverpool has made Brighton star Joao Pedro a priority for 2025, as the club is said to be exploring options for potential number nine reinforcements.

With Darwin Nunez still showing inconsistency and Diogo Jota often sidelined by injuries, this move would make sense. Pedro also aligns stylistically with what Liverpool needs.

At 23, he is at the right age to advance his career, showcasing the kind of skill set that Liverpool has historically admired. He is excellent in linking play, effective off the ball, and has been regularly scoring and assisting, with four goals and three assists in nine appearances under Fabian Hurzeler this season.

In terms of defensive contributions, Pedro is among Europe’s top forwards and attacking midfielders, ranking in the 90th percentile for tackles and the 97th for interceptions. His passing and creativity numbers are also in the high 80s or low 90s percentile. He is showing potential to become the next Roberto Firmino.

Soccer data site FBref also highlights that two of Pedro’s top-five most stylistically similar players are Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, which suggests he could be a good fit at Liverpool. Both Diaz and Gakpo are effective off the ball and becoming increasingly influential in attack under Slot.

Liverpool may land a new Roberto Firmino as $68m Arne Slot 'priority' appears to be a smart move

Brighton spent $38 million (£30m/€36m) to bring Pedro from Watford in 2023, so they would likely demand a significantly higher fee to part with him. The Seagulls are known for maximizing profits on player sales, with Alexis Mac Allister being a rare exception due to a release clause included in his contract.

There is also some uncertainty about how Slot views the number nine role, as Nunez, Jota, and Diaz have all played there under him, each interpreting the position differently. However, if Liverpool is looking for someone with a more well-rounded influence who can link play as well as finish, Pedro should be near the top of their list.

“He was the best player on the pitch,” former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said of Pedro—valued at least $68m (£54m/€65m), according to Fichajes—after he scored twice against Spurs last season. “He played another incredible game. I am really pleased with his improvement in mentality and attitude. In the defensive phase, he defended like a center-back for 90 minutes. He is becoming a top player. I hope in the next year to work with him, but it will be very tough.”

De Zerbi left Brighton in the summer and is no longer working with Pedro, but his prediction that the Brazilian will eventually join a top club is likely to come true. If Liverpool is seriously interested in him, it would be a logical move, even if his transfer will come at a high price.

  • “He will depart and I’m certain” – Transfer expert reveals major Liverpool update

“He will depart and I’m certain” – Transfer expert reveals major Liverpool update

Liverpool have undergone a complete transformation under Arne Slot this season. They are currently at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings, seemingly unstoppable.

Key players such as Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all been performing excellently, with each of them reaching new heights under the Dutch manager’s guidance.

However, one player has drawn criticism from fans for his performances this season. Darwin Nunez has scored just two goals in 11 Premier League matches, a disappointing return for a striker playing in a team challenging for titles.

Transfer expert David Lynch believes that Nunez is likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. He shared his thoughts with Sports Mole:

“It’s essentially settled now. I just don’t think there’s a debate there around Nunez. I think the die’s cast now. I think Nunez is what he is – two-and-a-half seasons in now, he hasn’t lived up to expectations, so the job is now to get the best out of him that you can between now and the end of the season, and then he will leave and I’m sure he’ll find somewhere else where [he will] fit better and [be] more appreciated.”

“It’s not been a very good signing, but as I say, it’s just important now to refocus on what he can do and what he can contribute between now and May.”

Liverpool require additional goals from Darwin Nunez

Liverpool require additional goals from Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool need more goals from Nunez, as while his work rate has been commendable, his finishing has been a significant concern for the team.

His lack of awareness in front of goal and failure to capitalize on chances has cost Liverpool points this season, especially in the recent match against Newcastle United.

To address this, Liverpool are reportedly considering Brighton’s Joao Pedro as a potential replacement for Nunez next year, with Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram also catching the club’s attention.

For Liverpool to reach the next level, they need a more prolific goal-scorer in their attack.

How many Liverpool matches Andy Robertson will miss following red card, with Premier League rule clarified

Liverpool news as Andy Robertson’s return date is confirmed after being sent off against Fulham in Saturday’s Premier League match.

For just the third time in his professional career, Andy Robertson was shown a red card. His early dismissal left Liverpool playing with 10 men for more than 75 minutes against Fulham.

This marked his second red card for the Anfield club, and Robertson appeared stunned when referee Tony Harrington sent him off shortly after Andreas Pereira’s opening goal. VAR upheld the decision, leaving Arne Slot with a dilemma to address.

With a goal and a man down, Liverpool found themselves without their two main left-back options, as Kostas Tsimikas was already suspended for accumulating yellow cards, having received his fifth against Newcastle earlier this month.

Fortunately for Slot, Robertson will not face a further suspension in Premier League matches. Aside from missing the remainder of the game against Fulham, who proved as resilient and combative as expected, Liverpool’s Scottish full-back will return soon.

How many Liverpool matches Andy Robertson will miss following red card, with Premier League rule clarified

Under new regulations, even a straight red card results in only a one-match ban, depending on the nature of the offense. In Robertson’s case, he was judged to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity when he fouled Harry Wilson. The former Liverpool player had seized on Robertson’s poor touch and was fouled while heading towards Alisson’s goal.

According to the rules, unlike serious foul play or violent conduct (which carry three-match bans), a foul like Robertson’s only results in a one-match suspension. A handball preventing a goal also earns a one-game ban, while offensive language leads to a two-match suspension.

For Liverpool, this means Robertson will miss only one match. Thanks to favorable scheduling, his suspension will apply to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton, not next Sunday’s crucial clash with Tottenham. Robertson may have been rested for the cup match anyway, as Liverpool are heavy favorites to progress.

This means that Robertson will be available for the visit to north London next weekend.

  • Klopp given the challenge of blocking £66m Liverpool transfer, with his charisma potentially backfiring

Klopp given the challenge of blocking £66m Liverpool transfer, with his charisma potentially backfiring

    Jurgen Klopp might prevent Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp might prevent Liverpool from completing the £66m signing of a talented attacker by guiding the player to RB Leipzig, a report suggests.

Klopp has frequently hinted that his managerial career would end after leaving Liverpool last summer. Rather than continuing the pressures of top-tier coaching, Klopp agreed to take on the role of global head of football at Red Bull.

He will begin this position on January 1, and according to reports from Germany, one of his first actions could disrupt a major Liverpool transfer.

Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing PSG forward Xavi Simons, who can play both as a left-winger and as an attacking midfielder. He is seen as a potential upgrade over Dominik Szoboszlai in the latter position.

Simons is currently midway through his second loan at RB Leipzig, but his future will be decided next summer when the loan period ends.

In a recent article from The Athletic, Liverpool was mentioned as one of the “most probable destinations” for Simons.

“Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are seen as the most probable destinations, while Manchester United showed some interest during the previous market,” David Ornstein reported.

“But it also depends on the player and [PSG manager] Luis Enrique. If the coach wants to keep him and adapts his approach slightly – or if Simons returns and accepts not always starting – then he could stay.

“PSG view Simons as a golden opportunity either way; they either retain a top talent or trade him at a huge profit. Unless something goes badly wrong, his anticipated transfer fee is €80million [£66.6m] minimum.”

However, according to an update from BILD’s Christian Falk, Leipzig plans to use Klopp as their “secret weapon” to help keep Simons at the club.

Leipzig’s financial limitations mean they cannot meet PSG’s asking price, making Klopp’s influence critical.

“Leipzig are interested in keeping Xavi Simons permanently,” Falk told Caught Offside.

“PSG want about €80m [£66.6m] for his services, which is too high for Leipzig. I heard they were thinking about €50m [£41.3m] up front and then a further €30m [£24.7m] to PSG if they sell Simons to another club.”

Explaining Klopp’s role, Falk added, “Interestingly for Leipzig, they now have a secret weapon in the form of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who they could potentially rely upon.

“He’s starting his new role with Red Bull on January 1, and they hope he could be the man to convince Simons to stay. This will be Klopp’s first challenge in his new role.”

Latest Liverpool news – Nunez, Zubimendi, Alexander-Arnold

In other news, Arne Slot has backed Darwin Nunez to flourish despite his recent poor form and transfer speculation linking him to Atletico Madrid.

Sports Illustrated reported that both Nunez and Kostas Tsimikas are on Atletico Madrid’s radar. Diego Simeone’s team is also said to have had scouts watching Liverpool’s match against Girona in Spain last week.

Meanwhile, The Times revealed that Martin Zubimendi is now “open” to leaving Real Sociedad in 2025.

This change of heart has drawn attention from long-time suitors Liverpool, who TEAMtalk understands are preparing to make a second attempt to sign the talented midfielder in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Lastly, Trent Alexander-Arnold has hinted strongly that he intends to stay at Liverpool, following comments about playing under Arne Slot.

Liverpool face losing key player as Alexis Mac Allister's suspension clarified

Ryan Gravenberch will need to navigate a disciplinary tightrope in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League matches if he wishes to avoid a one-match suspension. The 22-year-old Dutch midfielder has featured in all 14 league matches for the Reds this season, but with four yellow cards already, he risks losing his ever-present status.

Under Premier League rules, players who accumulate five yellow cards before the 20th game of the season automatically face a one-game suspension. For Gravenberch, this means that if he is booked in any of Liverpool’s next four league matches—against Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester, or West Ham—he will have to sit out the following game.

However, after the season’s halfway point, the suspension threshold increases to ten yellow cards across the first 32 matches, meaning Gravenberch could pick up a fifth booking in the games against Manchester United or later without facing a ban.

Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister will serve a one-match suspension against Fulham on Saturday after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season against Newcastle United. The Argentine was originally set to miss Liverpool’s trip to Goodison Park last weekend, but his suspension was postponed following the cancellation of the match due to Storm Darragh’s impact on Merseyside.

Mohamed Salah has scored in seven consecutive Premier League matches and will aim to extend that streak when Liverpool faces Everton on Saturday.

Alan Shearer has endorsed Salah’s chances of breaking Jamie Vardy’s Premier League scoring streak record. The Egyptian winger has found the net in seven straight league games and needs to score in five more to surpass Vardy, who set the record in 2015 by breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s previous streak.

Vardy, now 37, scored in 11 consecutive matches during Leicester City’s title-winning 2015/16 season, surpassing van Nistelrooy’s 10-match run. His goals came against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Stoke, Arsenal, Norwich, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Brom, Watford, Newcastle, and Manchester United.

Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, believes Salah can break Vardy’s record. Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures include matches against Everton, Fulham, Tottenham, Leicester, and West Ham.

Shearer told Betfair: “As a player, when you’re on a run like Salah is, you feel pretty unstoppable. I’ve been in that position myself, and you just can’t wait for the next game to come around.

“Winger Confirmed Out for 10 Weeks as Liverpool vs Fulham Team News is Revealed”

    Marco Silva

Fulham manager Marco Silva provided an injury update ahead of their Premier League match against Liverpool.

Silva acknowledged that Fulham will not have any players returning for their upcoming trip to Liverpool.

Liverpool will host Fulham at Anfield on Saturday (3pm GMT), aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points. Head coach Arne Slot will be pushing for improvements from his team after expressing dissatisfaction with their performance in a 1-0 Champions League win over Girona.

Fulham has had a strong start to the season, sitting 10th in the league after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal last weekend. However, they will travel to Merseyside without key defenders Calvin Bassey, who is serving a one-match suspension, and Joachim Andersen (calf injury). Additionally, captain Tom Cairney is completing the final match of a three-game ban, Harrison Reed remains unavailable, and on-loan Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is sidelined for 10 weeks.

At his pre-match press conference, Silva said: “No fresh news really, just Joachim and Harrison Reed, plus Reiss Nelson from the game we played against Brighton. They are going to be out, and of course, the third game of Tom Cairney’s suspension, plus the fifth yellow card from Calvin Bassey.”

He continued: “It is difficult to have a really precise time in this situation. I believe that Joa probably is going to be the closest one to come [back] but 100% not this week. Harrison Reed, we have to see, step by step. Reiss Nelson is going to be longer. Difficult to say when he’s going to be back. Probably around 10 weeks.”

Regarding Liverpool, Silva stated: “They’re the most consistent team in this league so far and are strong in any moment of the game. They make life difficult for any team they play. They’re great in terms of collective quality, the impact of the manager and individual quality. Everything together is why they are top of the league.”
