Update on Anthony Gordon's transfer following Liverpool's proposal, with Newcastle leaving the door open to departure

On August 30, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe provided an update regarding Anthony Gordon, a target for Liverpool, and his future.

Anthony Gordon is not disturbed by transfer rumours that associate him with Liverpool, according to Eddie Howe. The manager of Newcastle United has acknowledged that the team will need to offload players prior to the transfer market closing on August 30.

Back in June, the Reds and Newcastle had been discussing a potential trade for Gordon. They decided to sign Jarell Quansah for £75 million after first rejecting a desire to sign him as part of any trade, with Joe Gomez leaving in a different £45 million deal.

But, the deal fell through when the Magpies found another way to collect money in order to meet the June 30 deadline set by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Although Gordon is still very much wanted by Liverpool, Newcastle no longer has to rush to cash in on him, thus his asking price is probably going to go up. Therefore, it is unclear if the Reds would give the Magpies another chance to prove their mettle before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

Gordon only returned to Newcastle for his preseason on Tuesday, having played for England in the squad that advanced to the Euro 2024 final.

The Magpies play host to Brest on Saturday after welcoming Girona to St. James’ Park on Friday night as part of their preseason preparations. Whether Gordon plays in either game is still up in the air.

Before the doubleheader, Howe addressed the persistent rumours about the forward’s future. He acknowledged that the England international is dedicated to the team, but he also left the door open for the player to leave in the future.

“Bruno Guimaraes, who has also been connected to moving away, is where his head is. He stated of Gordon, “He’s with Newcastle.” “Avoid interruptions. He’s doing incredibly well (in training). His attention has been solely on his work and physical well-being, with no regard for anything other than this football team.

“Kieran Trippier and Gordon needed a longer vacation. We had to give them a mental vacation. They returned in good condition. Very pleased with these. I’m hoping they’ll be there this weekend.”

Earlier in the summer, Howe had stated that he wanted Gordon to remain at the club.

“I’m sure he’s alright,” the Newcastle manager assured reporters. “Over the summer, we haven’t had any tense or unpleasant conversations.

“He has consistently been the Anthony Gordon who has given Newcastle everything.” He plays such a significant role in our team.

Nobody was to be lost, in our opinion. Is it really our goal to lose our greatest players? In those final few weeks, we battled mightily to make the correct choices.

We were compelled by the regulations to do things against our will. We didn’t know what was going to happen, so there was a lot of uncertainty during this incredibly trying time.

“Though it was extremely challenging, Anthony is a crucial component of our work. He requires a brief respite. He’s had a demanding season, and he’ll undoubtedly have felt some emotion throughout the Euros. I hope he’ll be prepared to depart when he returns.

With the PSR issue still looming large over the Magpies, Howe was unable to rule out any other exits in the meantime.

He said, “We’re going to have to bring in income as well.” “We’re handling that extremely carefully…

We will make every effort to correct it, but during my stay here, there will undoubtedly need to be outgoings in order to balance things out.
