Alexis Mac Allister is the new Virgil van Dijk as five goals show the heart of Liverpool's transfer plan

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will be Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with fee estimates ranging from $44m to $69m.

For so long, Jude Bellingham appeared to be Liverpool’s main target for the summer transfer window, the player around whom the club’s plans revolved.

A true generational player, he was chosen as the man to kick off Liverpool’s latest leap – version 2.0 of Virgil van Dijk, once again allowing Jürgen Klopp’s side to take football to a whole new level .

But in April, the Reds opted to pull out of the contest, having concluded that Bellingham would eat up too much of their budget to rebuild their midfield properly.

Over the next few weeks, we waited to see who would become Liverpool’s main man in his place, and now we have our answer:

Alexis Mac Allister. According to journalist Neil Jones (via The Anfield Wrap), Mac Allister, whose arrival is due to be confirmed today, has been seen as top priority for the summer term.

That’s partly why Liverpool were quick to get him in in the first week of June, seven days before the Premier League window officially opens. If he waited any longer, there was a risk it would go wrong.

Mac Allister’s takeover delighted fans, but it won’t be long before attention turns to other goals, and there is still a lot of work to be done to take the team to the top level.

According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, the shortlist includes Nice’s Khéphren Thuram, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, Southampton’s Roméo Lavia and Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga.

You can roughly divide these players into two sports.

Alexis Mac Allister is the new Virgil van Dijk as five goals show the heart of Liverpool's transfer plan
First there are Thuram and Koné, who have played a similar number of minutes to Mac Allister in Europe’s top five (all between 6,000 and 6,600), but are a few years earlier in their development (both 22) and have yet to catch up.

settle down as internationals. While Mac Allister made 16 appearances for Argentina, including six starts on his way to World Cup glory, Thuram and Kone made just one appearance for France, beating the finalists in Doha.

And then in the underlying sport are Lavia and Veiga, two players on opposite sides of 20 who completed their first full season of consistent action at the top level.

Gravenberch is somewhere in between, having established himself as one of Europe’s brightest talents at Ajax before struggling to gain a foothold at Bayern. He logged just 559 minutes in the Bundesliga but made 11 appearances for the Netherlands. Unlike the rest of the players on the list, his offer is currently at a low level.

One thing all five players have in common is that they will likely take a little longer to adjust to than Mac Allister, who should be performing straight away as a proven Premier League great.

Indeed, Liverpool fans shouldn’t be fooled by its price tag, with estimates ranging from $44m/£35m/€41m (via Fabrizio Romano) to $69m/£55m/ €64m (via The Athletic’s Andy Naylor).

Had Brighton not been forced to include an exit clause in his contract, they would likely have demanded a much higher fee, perhaps close to what FSG had to pay for Van Dijk.

He’s a player who helped win a World Cup and produced outstanding performances for both sides in the Premier League, earning him a nomination for the competition’s Young Player of the Season award.

Under Klopp, he has what it takes to become one of the best all-around midfielders in Europe.

Jones dubbed him “the guy who [Liverpool] feels like he can build the other teams around him” and that explains why the other targets aren’t quite of the same caliber.

We can expect Liverpool to buy more midfielders this summer to complement Mac Allister and his skills in building up their long-term roster.

In that sense, as the heart of his department, he could be the midfielder version of Van Dijk. The core of Liverpool’s transfer plan has become clear.

Alexis Mac Allister is close to a big move to Liverpool despite Manchester United having expressed interest in the midfielder.

    Liverpool agree £35m transfer

The midfielder also had interest from United

Chose Klopp and a more advanced role with the Reds

WHAT HAPPENED? The Argentina international is set to spend £35m ($43.5m) alongside Jurgen Klopp and has passed a medical with the approval of his club Brighton.

WHY IS HE GOING TO LIVERPOOL? United were thought to be in contention for Mac Allister but according to The Times the player had a leaning towards Liverpool which forced Erik ten Hag to explore other midfield options this summer. United are interested in Mason Mount and are looking to sign a deal with Chelsea for the English midfielder.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Another report from The Athletic lists Mac Allister’s versatility as a trait both Liverpool and United admired when judging the 24-year-old.

They also allege Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, told Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi that his son preferred to play in a more advanced position, where he is expected to play for Klopp.

It has also been reported that Mac Allister doesn’t want to move to Old Trafford because Marcus Rashford won’t give up his favorite number 10 shirt, but this is probably nonsense.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAC ALLISTER? The move is expected to be officially announced by Liverpool shortly, after which Mac Allister will join his new team-mates for pre-season training in July, with their first friendly against German club Karlsruher SC on July 19.

Liverpool is one of the final two clubs an £85 million player may join, and they still have a chance to sign him.

Liverpool and Manchester United are competing for the services of Chelsea's Mason Mount, and Liverpool is still in the running.
Liverpool and Manchester United are competing for the services of Chelsea’s Mason Mount, and Liverpool is still in the running.

For a while now, Mount has been mentioned as one of Liverpool’s main summertime transfer targets. However, their dreams of bringing him into their squad appeared to be dashed last week when it appeared that United had moved ahead of them in line.

Florian Plettenberg, a journalist, asserts that this may no longer be the case. Yesterday, Plettenberg revealed on Twitter that Liverpool are still looking for Mount. The choice of which North West juggernaut to join is now solely up to the gamer. However, United continues to appear to be the new favorite.

News Mount: MUFC is reportedly pressing hard! He is absolutely desired, according to both Ten Hag and the employers. Everyone in the club believes in him, the journalist stated.

He will choose between Man Utd and Liverpool, I understand. At this point, the price is valued at €45-50m (£39-43m) including bonuses.

Mount prepared to make a decision.

For Liverpool fans, this update is a little bit puzzling in terms of what it means. According to a story from last week, Mount has already decided on his next club and wants to join United.

Liverpool and Manchester United are competing for the services of Chelsea's Mason Mount, and Liverpool is still in the running.
The cost seems to be the only issue still. The player, who only has one year left on his contract, is reportedly asking as much as £85 million from Chelsea. Naturally, any prospective buying groups are requesting that the asking price be drastically reduced.

It would seem more acceptable to charge a fee that is more in line with what Plettenberg is claiming. You can see why Liverpool was initially intrigued if that turns out to be the final selling price for Mount.

Sadly, it appears that the 24-year-old is less interested in the Reds than they are in him. That’s unfortunate because it seems like Mount could truly excel under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance.

A player these days choosing United over Liverpool is also pretty unusual. Sadio Mane, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo, among others, reportedly choose to sign with the Reds in recent years rather than their fierce rivals.

The possibility that Mount will deviate from the norm could be the first indication of the consequences of Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

The Reds won’t be very alarmed, though. They appear prepared to pursue further targets. Liverpool might postpone those other moves if Mount does a surprise U-turn. But we don’t observe it taking place.

Man City’s alleged transfer strategy has gone horribly awry as Liverpool receives a $56 million Fábio Carvalho warning.

Man City's alleged transfer strategy has gone horribly awry as Liverpool receives a $56 million Fábio Carvalho warning.

Liverpool needs to have a summer plan for Fabio Carvalho. One transfer option seems appealing, but a warning from Man City is being delivered in real time.

When discussing the competitive imbalance between Manchester City and Liverpool and other rivals these days, Manchester City supporters are eager to bring up net transfer spend. Although the Abu Dhabi owners made significant investments to establish the club in the beginning—investments that are now the focus of numerous Premier League allegations—the current incarnation of the team appears to be self-sustaining in many ways.

There are several causes for that. One reason is that investing significant sums of money in a variety of squad players over time inevitably creates a situation where very sellable assets are constantly coming and going. For instance, Manchester City was able to quickly turn a profit on Ferran Torres and Danilo.

For Raheem Sterling, it also collected a sizeable sum last summer. The initial transfer fee for signing him from Liverpool back in 2015 has long since been subtracted from many ‘net spend’ calculations, but Manchester City actually sold him for almost exactly the same amount it cost to buy him in the first place.

But Manchester City’s academy is one of the less-noticed ways the company is currently able to consistently make money. Youth players see their values inflated simply by being associated with the club, especially if they see a few minutes with the first team. In some ways, this is just an added benefit of being at the top of the game.

It should be noted that Manchester City has made significant investments in its academy system, which have been very successful and have helped to develop a number of players with exceptional talent. Future transfer fees for players like Rico Lewis and Phil Foden could be greatly reduced.

Gavin Bazunu and Roméo Lavia, who were sold to Southampton last summer for a combined $32 million (£26 million/€30 million), have already generated revenue for the team.

With all due respect to Bazunu, the move to sell the goalkeeper for a profit appears nothing short of brilliant. No league goalkeeper underperformed by a greater margin as the Saints lost despite expected goals indicating they should have barely survived.

Regarding Lavia, there might already be some sellers’ remorse. A year later, Football Insider reports that Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are all reportedly interested in signing the midfielder for at least $56 million (£45 million/€52 million).

Although they recognized his potential, Rodri was seen by Manchester City as a barrier to any quick progress. The eventual transfer plan must have been met with high fives all around — pure profit to bank on the books, but with a buy-back clause set at a relatively reasonable $50m (£40m/€47m) in the event Lavia fulfilled his considerable promise.

It has been suggested that Liverpool may try to do something similar with Fábio Carvalho a year from now. He was acquired from Fulham last summer, unlike Lavia, who was an academy prospect. The Reds, however, paid a relatively small fee and would make a respectable profit from any sale, with a buy-back serving as potential insurance.

It is very similar to that situation. Carvalho’s immense talent is still well known to Liverpool, but Jürgen Klopp is currently unable to use him. The temptation to make some money now while still holding an option on the 20-year-old may be strong, especially in light of a significant summer rebuild.

Liverpool needs to have a summer plan for Fabio Carvalho. One transfer option seems appealing, but a warning from Man City is being delivered i

However, the current state of affairs with Lavia should act as a grave caution. Manchester City’s option does not go into effect until the summer of 2019, as is customary with buy-back clauses. Amazingly, according to Football Insider, Pep Guardiola’s team might even enter the auction, outbidding its own dormant buy-back clause and spending about $39 million (£31 million/€36 million) more than the price at which he was sold the previous year.

What seemed to be a lose-lose transfer strategy has turned out to be a catastrophe. Manchester City will either have to pay a steep price to re-sign Lavia on the open market or watch as one of its best former players is acquired by a rival. Additionally, even if the clause was in effect, it would not stop other teams from matching the offer and the player from choosing to move elsewhere.

Perhaps for this reason, despite RB Leipzig’s interest in Carvalho this summer, The Athletic reports that Liverpool is “adamant” that only a loan will be approved for him. Although the current Manchester City likes to portray itself as a bulwark of market efficiency, Klopp should be extremely cautious about copying this tactic.

Liverpool reportedly rejected RB Leipzig’s offer of just over £10 million for young star Fabio Carvalho, but the Bundesliga club is still reportedly interested in the midfielder.

Liverpool made a strong effort to sign Carvalho in January 2022, but the club missed the transfer deadline and had to wait for a deal to be reached in the following summer.

Despite having a promising beginning to life at Anfield, the Portugal Under-21 international played just 11 minutes of Premier League after the World Cup ended in December.

Jurgen Klopp still believes in the talent and potential of Carvalho, despite the fact that the 20-year-old was largely left out of his team for the second half of the season.

Although Liverpool are still open to a short-term transfer, the former Fulham talent wants to play. However, it has been reported that Carvalho would be against this.

They want to lend him out or buy him back later. a thrilling opponent for Leipzig’s team. Continued interest is evident. “.

Alexis Mac Allister: Liverpool hoping to sign midfielder from Brighton and Argentina midfielder

Liverpool have been in contact with Brighton about the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, who has an escape clause of between £45m and £55m in his contract; Jurgen Klopp wants to renew the midfield after the departure of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo

Liverpool are hoping to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister this week.
The two Premier League clubs have been in contact over Argentina’s World Cup winner, who has an escape clause of between £45m and £55m in his contract.

Mac Allister signed a new contract with Brighton last October, extending a deal which was due to expire this summer but now runs until summer 2025, with an option for a further 12 months

Once the release clause is met, personal terms should soon be agreed between Liverpool and Mac Allister.

The 24-year-old’s arrival could kick-start what looks set to be a busy summer at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp looking to refresh a side that have missed out on Champions League qualification this season.

With Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all leaving the club on expiring contracts, midfield is a particular area Liverpool need as Arthur Melo returns to Juventus at the end of his loan. Milner is about to move to Brighton and his move to Amex is nearing completion.

Brighton finished just one place behind Liverpool in the Premier League and will be playing in Europe for the first time next season.

Mac Allister joined from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019 but spent the rest of the season with the Argentine club before spending the first half of the 2019-20 season on loan at Boca Juniors.

Mac Allister finally moved to Amex in January 2020 and made 112 appearances for Brighton, scoring 20 goals and collecting nine assists.

He had a breakthrough in the 2022/23 season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions and has become a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s impressive squad.

Mac Allister also established himself in Argentina’s midfield at the World Cup in November and December, starting six games – including the final – as Lionel Scaloni’s side won the tournament in Qatar.

Reporter describes a "special" Liverpool player as being "deeply unhappy" at the moment.

Deeply dissatisfied at Liverpool, Fabio Carvalho.

That is what Jack Collins, the host of the Ranks FC Podcast, claims to know with some degree of certainty about Carvalho’s circumstance.

Collins is familiar with Carvalho from his time at Fulham and claims that he has heard from reliable sources that the midfielder is not happy with his current circumstances at Anfield. Collins claims that noises coming from Carvalho’s camp seem to indicate that he wants to leave permanently.

    Carvalho is not content.

Collins revealed what he knows about the “special” Liverpool player.

Collins stated, “That’s from a base of genuine knowledge, he is deeply unhappy with what has happened this season.

“I can tell you that he is a very unhappy, very frustrated young man right now, and I believe that his camp is showing genuine signs that he wants to leave permanently because he feels betrayed. ”.

    I can’t blame him.

Can anyone really blame Carvalho for not liking his current job at Liverpool?

After being one of Fulham’s top players in the Championship, the midfielder left for the Reds, and he immediately made an impact at Anfield.

Early in the season, goals against Newcastle and Bournemouth made Carvalho stand out, but by the time the World Cup arrived, he was out of the team and having trouble getting playing time.

The fact that Carvalho hasn’t played much football in 2023 is concerning because he is a young player with a lot of potential.

Less than a year into his time at Liverpool, and Carvalho is already dissatisfied.

Sadly, it’s difficult to think that the youngster will spend the majority of his life in Merseyside.

The move of Alexis Mac Allister from Man Utd to Liverpool is now considered to be final.

The move of Alexis Mac Allister from Man Utd to Liverpool is now considered to be final.
Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly left Brighton for Liverpool.

Alexis Mac Allister reportedly turned down Manchester United before deciding to join Liverpool, despite the Reds failing to qualify for the Champions League.

The World Cup winner will be Jurgen Klopp’s first summer signing, with Liverpool finally receiving one from Premier League rivals United.

Mac Allister was key to Brighton’s remarkable success in 2022-23. His performances for the Seagulls helped them qualify for the Europa League under Roberto De Zerbi. Despite European qualification, the south coast side had little hope of retaining the playmaker.

Liverpool now intend to sign Mac Allister after agreeing a fee with Brighton. The exact value of the deal is not known, with figures ranging from £45m to £60m. It will probably be somewhere in between.

The Argentine star will apparently finalize personal talks with Liverpool before undergoing a medical at the club’s training base. The Reds staged a coup by luring Mac Allister despite failing to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

According to The Times, Mac Allister rejected United’s advances because he wanted to join Liverpool.

The move of Alexis Mac Allister from Man Utd to Liverpool is now considered to be final.
This then convinced Erik ten Hag to switch to Chelsea star Mason Mount, who will move to Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
Klopp has been desperately looking for a tired midfield this summer to breathe new life into.

James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita will all leave the club when their contracts formally expire on 30 June. Liverpool’s midfield issues played a key role in Klopp’s inability to further challenge the top four and challenge for the big trophies in the 2022/23 season.

Injuries, fitness issues and the loss of form of several midfielders meant that Liverpool’s performance faltered after a fantastic season the previous year.

The signing of Mac Allister – a deal reportedly ‘closed’ by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano – is the first step in the Liverpool midfielder’s transformation. Klopp was apparently attracted to the former loanee from Boca Juniors because he could play in six, eight or ten.

The versatile midfielder had signed a new contract at Brighton, although the terms did little to prevent him from securing a free transfer this summer. An included release clause from Brighton was a rare move from a club that rejected huge offers for Moises Caicedo in January.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister is just the first midfielder to arrive at Anfield before the opening window of the domestic deal on 14 June. The Reds are reportedly considering transfers for Nice’s Kephrem Thuram and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool turned down RB Leipzig’s opening offer for Fabio Carvalho, with the people behind the offer explaining that they thought it was “derisory.”

Although Carvalho is anticipated to leave Anfield this summer, the club appears to prefer to send their No. 28 on loan

According to Philipp Hinze of Sky Germany, Leipzig made a formal offer for the 20-year-old player for €12 million, and that didn’t stop them.

Liverpool rejected their initial approach, with club sources cited by The Times’ Paul Joyce as calling the offer “derisory.”. ”.

According to Football Insider’s David Lynch, Leipzig will make a new offer, and a buy-back clause could persuade the Reds to sell. However, any deal would need to be significantly improved.

Liverpool would have received £10.3 million from a bid of €12 million, which amounted to less than a £2 million profit.

When the club acquired Carvalho from Fulham in May 2022, they also agreed to a deal worth £7.7 million.

Why Liverpool's refusal to accept RB Leipzig's €12 million offer for Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool initially paid £5 million for the young Portuguese player, and an additional £2 point 7 million was added to the deal in various add-ons.

With Carvalho having played 21 times and scoring three goals in his previous season, it is safe to assume that at least some of those add-ons have already been paid.

Another signing from the previous year saw Liverpool agree to £21.34 million in add-ons as part of the deal for Darwin Nunez, with £4.3 million paid after his first 10 games.

The modest sum of £500,000 can be used as an example of potential add-on payments to Fulham for the purposes of this explanation.

In the compensation agreement, Fulham also negotiated a 20% sell-on clause that most likely only applies to any profit Liverpool make from a sale.

A profit of £4.8 million would be left after deducting an estimated £5.5 million from Leipzig’s offer of £10.3 million, of which £960,000 would be owed to Fulham.

To Liverpool, that would only leave £3.84 million.

Why Liverpool's refusal to accept RB Leipzig's €12 million offer for Fabio Carvalho
The club could then rationally take into account the wages paid to Carvalho during his first season at Anfield when evaluating any actual profit.

Spotrac estimates Carvalho’s annual salary at £2.08 million, or £40,000 per week, bringing any profit down to £1.76 million.

Not to mention any compensation given to the attacker’s father, Victor Carvalho, who served as a middleman in the arrangement to bring him to Liverpool.

Liverpool reportedly paid intermediaries and agents a total of £33.7 million in 2022–23 across 39 deals, according to the FA.

Given his position in Jurgen Klopp’s team, an eight figure offer for Carvalho may seem reasonable; however, it is not surprising Leipzig were rejected with such vehemence.

As Jamie Carragher selects a player who “will end up being the captain,” Alexis Mac Allister, a new signing for Liverpool, may cost less than Luis Diaz.

Alexander-Arnold is designated as the captain-elect by Carragher.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has the support of Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player, to lead the team at Anfield.

Despite his young age of 24, Alexander-Arnold has been a member of Liverpool for almost 20 years. He started out in the youth ranks before making his first team debut in 2017.

The right-back, who was raised in West Derby, has made 198 appearances for the Reds, just shy of 200 overall, winning England and European championships along the way.

Carragher thinks he’s destined for the position in the long run despite having only ever led the team out once, in a Champions League group stage dead rubber against Midtjylland in 2020.

“It is getting to the point now where he is getting more mature and it will eventually become his team,” he said to The Redmen TV. The captain will ultimately be him. “.

Of course, Carragher is another Scouser who, after graduating from the Reds’ academy, achieved great things with the team.

From 1996 until his retirement in 2013, he played on the senior team, serving the club for 10 of those years as vice-captain.

Price tag for Alexis Mac Allister is a “bargain.”.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Brighton player Alexis Mac Allister’s contract has a release clause that is less than $56 million (£45 million/€52 million) for Liverpool.

Mac Allister is scheduled to have a medical in the next 24 to 48 hours, according to Romano, who claims that Liverpool wants to get the “documents signed” for the deal this week.

The Reds should be able to activate the aforementioned clause as soon as personal terms are fully agreed upon, and the transaction can then be completed.

In comparison to players like Luis Daz ($62m/£50m/€58m) and Diogo Jota ($56m), the club believes he could prove to be a “bargain.”.

This is true even though he won the World Cup with Argentina and shone for Brighton in the Premier League, earning a nomination for the competition’s Young Player of the Season honor.

As it prepares for a drop in revenue following its failure to make the Champions League, Liverpool may put an even greater emphasis on bargain deals this summer.

Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach and Khephren Thuram from Nice have both been brought up by the Liverpool midfielder as potential replacements, he continued. Kone could be bought for less than £35 million. ”.

After a disappointing 2022–23 season, LFC needed to make changes in the middle of the park, and this appears to be the right course of action.

While squad members like James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are now under contract, Jurgen Klopp’s team failed to win any hardware and dropped out of the top four. Replacements are undoubtedly needed for aging stars like Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson.

Man United know Alexis Mac Allister is ready to take on a role at Liverpool that Mohamed Salah ‘hates’

Incoming midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has an important weapon to offer Liverpool after Jürgen Klopp had to make up his mind last season over Mohamed Salah’s shortcomings.

In early May, Brighton beat Manchester United 1-0 at the Amex Stadium to give Liverpool a glimmer of hope in their race to the top four of the Premier League.
Defeat for Erik ten Hag’s side saw Liverpool go within four points, although Manchester United still had a game in hand.

The match winner for the Seagulls that night was Alexis Mac Allister, and coincidentally he’s now on the verge of becoming a Liverpool player (via The Guardian).

Mac Allister’s crucial goal came in the 99th minute, making it the last goal in a Premier League match since – poetically – Bruno Fernandes grabbed three points for United against the Seagulls in September 2020. Both attacks came from the penalty spot and both displayed supreme composure at a decisive moment.

Mac Allister is truly a specialist when it comes to penalties, having scored nine out of 10 in his professional career, according to Transfermarkt.

His only miss came in a game away to Wolves last season, and even then he made amends from 12 yards in the same half, with Brighton winning 3-0.

Since then he has scored seven in a row, or eight if you count the one in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United (again) in April.

Only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (seven) has scored more from the penalty spot than the Argentine (six) in 2022/23.

Looking at Mac Allister’s seven shots on goal this season, some clear trends can be seen.

The first is the variety of his placements – three went right, three left and one in the middle.
In terms of height, he preferred the top corner (four times), which is of course a high risk, high reward strategy.

Mac Allister struck in the top right corner against Brentford and in the FA Cup game against Manchester United, the only time he scored consecutive penalties from the same spot.

He preferred to mix things up from one penalty to another, which made it almost impossible for goalkeepers to prepare. The other trend was build quality.

All but one of his penalties ended up in the corner or the side netting, with the inevitable exception of his midfield shot against Leicester. It alludes to Mac Allister’s near robotic cool under that unique print.

By contrast, Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s best penalty taker, missed two consecutive penalties earlier in the season and didn’t even use the keeper against Bournemouth or Arsenal.

At this point, Jurgen Klopp said he would talk to the Egyptian to stay in the job but ultimately opted to back him. He was rewarded with successful efforts in back-to-back matches against Spurs and Fulham in late April/early May.

However, trust in Salah will have diminished in these situations, not least because he also lost some in the 2021/22 season.

With Mac Allister, Liverpool may soon have a more reliable option at their disposal.

Given his stature within the club and his obsession with individual goal milestones, Klopp seems unlikely he will deprive Salah of penalties, although he has admitted he dislikes the role.

“I hate pens all the time, I don’t like the feel,” he told Steven Gerrard on LFCTV’s ‘When Stevie Met Salah’ (via This is Anfield) earlier this year.

Mac Allister is likely to replace outgoing James Milner, who has impressively buried 19 of his 21 penalties for Liverpool, as the designated replacement.

But if Salah falters again and Klopp decides it’s time to move, then he’ll be ready to step in and present a valuable weapon in his arsenal. Manchester United knows this all too well.

As new targets emerge after Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool’s £80 million investment is about to pay off.

Liverpool has revealed new information regarding their stadium, signings, and schedule as they prepare for a significant summer of rebuilding

Liverpool has revealed new information regarding their stadium, signings, and schedule as they prepare for a significant summer of rebuilding both on and off the field.

In both a literal and figurative sense, Liverpool’s summer rebuild is starting to take real shape.

After a season of underperformance that resulted in the lowest finish of any of Klopp’s seven full terms as manager in fifth, much of the discourse in recent weeks and months has been of a Reds squad in need of a restructuring, particularly in the midfield ranks where James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have now departed as free agents and Arhur Melo has returned to Juventus.

But while that engine-room metaphor has been stretched to breaking point with regards to the work Klopp and his recruitment team need to undertake in the transfer window, there’s also a more tangible building project that is picking up pace at Anfield right now as the club gets set for something of a new era.

The Anfield Road development project is now in its final stages before Liverpool formally opens their new-look stadium with a capacity of 61,000. In order to help the Reds host their largest crowds in decades, the £80 million rebuild will add an additional 7,000 seats to the storied stadium. The speed at which the work has been completed in the last 18 to 24 months has impressed those who have regularly observed it up close. Following the completion of the £110 million Main Stand in 2016, the sum spent on infrastructure improvements at Anfield in recent years will be close to £200 million.

The start of the summer-long construction plans that will see one of the most renowned stadiums in the world football reopen in August with a vibrant new look was the final whistle of the final home game of the season against Aston Villa on May 20. Cranes currently populate the pitch as the roof is taken off the Anfield Road end to make way for a new one.

The summer schedule is crucial for Liverpool as a team in many ways because they want to finish the Anfield expansion in time for the new season and get the necessary work done in the football operations department to ensure that their Champions League exclusion is only temporary.

As new targets emerge after Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool's £80 million investment is about to pay off.

As Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister, the Reds’ first signing of the summer, approaches, momentum is building in the recruitment department. Liverpool made the Argentina international a primary target after taking the decision earlier this year to step away from the chase for Borussia Dortmund’s £130m-rated Jude Bellingham.

The existence of a clause in Mac Allister’s contract should make negotiations with Brighton easier, and Liverpool are hoping to sign the 24-year-old before he departs for international duty with the World Cup champions when they play Australia on June 15.

From there, attention will then likely turn to further midfield reinforcements. Mason Mount has been a long-standing target but it appears as though the Chelsea midfielder is edging closer to Manchester United.

Southampton’s 19-year-old midfielder Romeo Lavia has his admirers as does Wolves’ Portugal international Matheus Nunes, while respective reports in France and Germany last week linked the Reds to Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach. Bayern Munich’s Netherlands international Ryan Gravenberch is another who is said to be of interest.

A proactive and aggressive pursuit of key targets is anticipated throughout June before the team reports back to duty in July.
With Jorg Schmadtke, the club’s new sporting director, initially joining on a temporary basis, there is little time to waste for the German to make his mark at Anfield. Additionally, with Klopp eager to wrap up his business as quickly as possible.

July 8 will mark the first day of pre-season training at the AXA Centre with Klopp’s players set to be whipped into shape with the now infamous lactate test.

The test requires the Liverpool players to sprint as hard as they can from one pole to the next before the whistle is blown, typically by renowned drill sergeant Andreas Kornmayer. Every interval results in a shorter gap between whistles, which forces the players to move more quickly. During the exercise, players also have blood drawn from their ears to check their lactate acid levels.
Milner typically prevails in this challenge.
But with the veteran gone, the team will be able to celebrate a new champion this summer.

Liverpool then fly out to Germany for a pre-season training camp that will see the work turned up several notches. In a change in traditional scheduling, Klopp has taken the decision to visit a European-based camp before the more commercially-driven jaunt to Singapore, which is more lucrative but a less taxing exertion from the players’ perspective on the training pitches.

As new targets emerge after Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool's £80 million investment is about to pay off.
Last year, players like Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, and Naby Keita all suffered early-season injuries. Klopp is determined to reduce the likelihood of a repeat, so his players will engage in taxing double sessions in the Black Forest in mid-July before the lengthy flight to the Far East. All of this is done to help the team as a whole develop a solid base of fitness as they work to fully recover next season.

As the ECHO revealed last month, the Reds will play two friendlies in Germany against Karlsruher and Greuther Furth. It has now been determined that those dates are July 19 and 24, with the second game taking place behind closed doors. Before the Reds return to Merseyside, Liverpool will play two more friendlies in Singapore on July 30 and August 2 against Leicester City and Bayern Munich, both at the National Stadium.

Klopp is keen to have one final local-based friendly before the curtain is raised on the 23/24 term but Liverpool have made a request to the Premier League to play their first game of the new campaign away from home while the finishing touches are placed on the Anfield Road end.

The ECHO understands a friendly at Preston North End’s Deepdale stadium is under consideration as a result as Liverpool look to end a busy summer with one final exhibition match. Following that, Klopp and his team will have to start working very hard. The Reds will find out if they will play an away game on June 15 when the Premier League schedule is made public.

Prior to that, though, Liverpool still have a lot to accomplish both on and off the field as a crucial summer for many departments continues.
